What  a waste.

If they can't support it - but keep bleating about prize money - just scrap it.

There is a valuable 3yo handicap today over 6 furlongs which is also competing with the Bunbury.

What's more annoying is they'll cite fast ground the reason for mega withdrawals when the way the tracks been watered it's virtually impossible to be on the quick side.

What 'mega withdrawals'? There were only 51 entries at the first stage, which closed on June 12th. There have been two more forfeits since then, each witn an additional payment, making a total fee of £600 just to run.

Some of those 51 will have dropped out along the way - horses get injured, horses get sold, so less than 51 by this week. Of those 27 are running. For any race with entries a month ahead, that's a pretty normal percentage that end up actually running.

No doubt if they'd been told a month ago that there would be a £50k race with seven runners, more might have entered, but there was no way of knowing that on June 12th.
