Amelia George's appearance in the apprentice race at Wolverhampton on Monday probably won't draw much attention but the path the eight-year old mare has taken to get there is far from normal. Bred by her owner John Ford, Amelia joined us originally in 2013 as a weak and immature three-year old. She took a while to get the hang of things and eventually ran the following winter where she twice finished down the field in maiden races. She was a lovely-natured horse but sadly couldn't run very fast so John retired her and we found her a place at the British Racing School as one of the horses the trainee jockeys learn to ride on. She was happy in that job for three years before getting a bit too strong and the School got in touch with us to say that none of the students could hold her on the canter anymore.
Before finding another home for her, John decided he would try Amelia back in training as she had clearly strengthened up since last running over four years ago. The orders from him were always "Tell me if she's useless" but with every step up in her training since joining us, she has done things very satisfactorily. We are not expecting her to have suddenly turned into a champion but she seems to be a lot better horse than she was so hopefully she can show some ability on the track - we shall find out on Monday!
interesting tale about that one sparrow .. Amelia George's appearance in the apprentice race at Wolverhampton on Monday probably won't draw much attention but the path the eight-year old mare has taken to get there is far from normal.Bred by her own
Looks like a similar forecast plunge may well have come off in the 2.30 Pontefract, the previously unraced runner-up Loch Ness Monster was backed last night and was hammered from 25 to 13 on here in the space of a minute just before off in the win market. Chris Dixon appeared to be playing down it's chances on RUK but somebody clearly knew it would run well behind the odds on fav, with the 2nd fav drifting like a barge just before the off.
