They interviewed Winston twice on TV, he was not confident at all. After the race he played down the win big style and labelled the other riders as clueless as they gifted him the race.

The funny thing about the gambles with this horse is that they're a throwback to a bygone age: getting hold of a well handicapped horse, sending it to an old-school sort of trainer, then patiently laying it out for the traditional, big handicaps, like the Cesarewitch and the Plate. It could have been plotted up by the Druid's Lodge Confederacy a hundred years ago.

Yet it's all been orchestrated by an owner who's made his money by exploiting all the modern technological advances in betting.
