In this day and age of cameras in cricket stumps, in snooker table pockets, on tennis court nets, on goal lines, in formula one cars.
How come we still hear this comment made day in day out from commentators of both Horse racing and greyhound racing ?
Shirley it is possible to put a camera directly on a finishing line at a race course / greyhound track.

Ripon...Carlisle ...Salisbury ...Wolverhampton to name some

Why do we need a camera on the line...can people not wait a few minutes for the result..does it not add a little suspense

SOME people want to bet on the result of a photo finish...why deny them that opportunity

Was gonna back us daily mate but holding fire after what we've brought in Cry ( I'll wait to see what we end up with )...what a state the club's in when you look at who'd rather go elsewhere Blush

I realise where we are but would have hoped for better...

It seems to be purposely done to have 'tricky' camera angles.
Probably as you say to keep the photo finish markets alive.
Same dodgey camera angles are in US racing too.

Give people on course a betting edge. Makes a lot of sense if you want people to go racing.

Ya a great idea to get people to go racing, you’d get an extra one or two through the gate , and give them the chance to fleece the thousands watching it at home.

It's an interesting point OP.

It does seems ridiculously easy to place a 'finish line camera' to show the actual finish, if they wanted to. Obviously they don't want to.

I suppose there is the issue of showing the lead up to the finish - if using a finish line camera they would have to 'cut to' that shot right at the end, might not be great for production/coverage.

The photo finish camera is on the winning line at every racecourse.

What about an eagle eye type replay as soon as they have passed the post. The judges could have them as well and we could all see the result the same time as the judge.

Shouldn't be beyond expectations in 2018 to expect an overhead gantry across the finish line with instant pictures available. Technology already available but Luddites are running Racing.

Leave all courses exactly as they are....we get the result soon enough ( in the majority of cases Grin )
