A fabulous writer is Down. The great thing about AD is his ability to extract emotion. Remember some of his early posts in the Weekender back in the mid late 80s a different style from today but some really amusing stuff.

Very good article about a very good trainer. The Queen seemed to know as Nicky H. was in the carriage procession and he is probably hosting the Harrington family this week.

the voice over pieces on the morning line were a mute button job and when mcgrath took over that mantle in the same over the top style it became an embarrassment.

Several years ago a shockingly inept ride (I can't recall who it was off hand) was absolutely slated on this very forum in some depth and rightly so. Down comes on Channel 4 and defends, of course, the ineptitude of the ride and then proceeds to steam into the inane ramblings from the rabble "in the cheap seats" meaning us lot !

Nothing wrong with a dollop of sentimentality every now and again and Down is up with the best for it. Thoroughly enjoyed the piece and my only quibble with the Post is the way they managed to block Eamonn Leigh out of the main pic, given he was so deservedly a centre piece of the article.
