Does 'Paul the octopus' do the schedule these days?

Day off sunday quite often fair enough but we are on the tuesday after the Derby and there are 2 afternoon jumps meets and no flat meets.

looking at some of the fields and quality in epsoms supporting races, we could do with culling a good few more meetings

The quality doesn't bother me 1TP most of my stuff is class 4-6, I just think the actual schedule could be more sensible so rather than 2 days with 9 meets on thursday and friday and 0 and 1 on tuesday and wenesday  you might actually balance it up a bit more. One day you've got 5 minute intervals and then you have nothing.

It's the flat turf season as far as I'm concerned, no reason for a blank today.

is it to give flat jockeys, stable staff etc a day off?

there's simply no need to have blank days like this, just regionalise some of the fixtures ffs and have today as an appointed north or south fixture day only

cannot be that difficult to regionalise a small number of crap fixtures a year both flat & jumps
make them open to north/south based trainers & jockeys only
cluster them on certain days in a year and/or in a block during the winter for flat & summer for jumps
problem solved

A disgrace of epic proportions, baking mid summers day and we have only this lot to watch going round and round, up and down, pushed and cajoled into performing, a time and a place FFS

Well I have to agree that Newcastle is easily the worst of the AW courses.

3 or 4 meetings as opposed to nothing in the winter which is why they were introduced.

I'm strictly low grade Striding but prefer Chelmsford and Wolverhampton.

Balancing the fixture list does not seem to be something the BHA is able to do.
