I can't comment on the current state but presumably if (in their opinion) owners and trainers are that bad then facilities for paying customers must be even worse?

Do owners and trainers have a particular problem mixing with the general riff-raff? This glorified segregation has always struck me as odd, particularly as you already have a filter with a members area.

owners have to pay training fees for the horse ,transport to the course(for the horse),entry fees for the race, all this costing much more than the'riff raff'have to pay.
if you were a patron of say the opera, and paid a lot of money to keep the thing afloat would you be happy to be sitting in the cheap seats at the back of the theatre.
if you pay for a first class seat on the train you would expect to be sat in first class.
The owners /trainers bars had been hired out to corporate(more money for the greedy racecourses}.
The owners and trainers were crammed into a tiny room overlooking the local canal/river,with one tiny tv and a tiny bar.
I'm sure the trainers would love to be herded in with the general public on raceday(even members), and be forced to listen to people asking them for a winner all day.

Worcester remains a decent track with the ground well looked after. Having said that the facilities and quality of racing have been in decline for some time now and there is an urgent need to improve things. We all know that under the current ownership that is not going to happen. When you look at similar tracks like Newton Abbott and Ludlow which attract better horses and prizemoney you have to wonder what the agenda is at Worcester.
Report general custer June 4, 2018 9:16 AM BST
the scottish tracks are the best at looking after owners and trainers
Ayr is the best,Hexham is a disgrace cup of soup in a cardboard cup and roll

Best facilities for owners I've experienced are Ascot and Cheltenham where they served excellent food ,wine etc at tables with proper tablecloths/napkins.
Seem to remember at Chepstow we were stuck in an overcrowded room and were entitled to a sandwich ! Probably explains why I'm no great fan of Chepstow !

Some smaller courses certainly look after owners...Wincanton for example comes to mind.

Mmmmlushka I suppose I must make it clear as you probably don't realize I was quoting the opening poster, I certainly would not call punters riff raff and mean it
you obviously don't do irony.

The only place I've ever been served a pint of 'off' Guinness was the O&T bar at Worcester (which is normally shared with annual members). It's a small, dark, cramped bar with a couple of tiny screens. It sounds like on Saturday the management commandeered this grim hovel for a corporate event and moved the owners into a tent? That might actually have been an improvement!

Nice course on a quiet day - claustrophobic hellhole when it's busy. Wouldn't have fancied Derby Day in a million years.

Use to be a member at Worcester some ears ago.
Returned a few years ago. Racing fine, facilities and ambience dreadful. I'm sure Arena are aware and may not choose to invest to improve under their Agenda.
Shame, was a lovely Course to visit once upon a time.
Feel for the Owners and Trainers.

Arena have refurbished Bath and purchased Ffos Las, so I see no reason why they can't build a new stand at Worcester.  Unfortunately, the Severn flooding every winter may have something to do with it.

Ribotman,

I take on board your opposite argument.

However, I am uneasy with the idea of 'paying' to create segregation. I presume owners don't pay to get in and it is their choice to invest in the sport. The people who they don't appear to want to mix with indirectly fund their hobby. As regards asking for tips (what would be so bad about that, after all the media will ask what's your best chance of the day?) I suspect many of the casual racegoers that the sport now attracts wouldn't even recognise them. Racing suffers with the tag of being a rich man's sport and this sort of thing doesn't help the image. Some people like the pomp but many more probably don't.

As regards the quality of racing at Worcester it has inevitably declined since it became a summer jumping track.
Report Willie Wumpkins June 4, 2018 4:58 PM BST
don' they first of all want to see the race from the o/t room and preferably in some comfort with some atmosphere?
Report TheFear June 4, 2018 5:06 PM BST
i agree with differentdrum - no segregation. The kind of people who want to go in the O&Ts are the show offs and people who own about 2% of a horse.

no surprise to me as i am an annual member i never go to that meeting as the crowd is totally ridiculous every area is sold to corporate including owners and trainers bar facilities for 1500 crowd of 10,000 same every year totally agree with trainers and owners they are only interested in what gets taken behind the bar
Report sageform June 4, 2018 7:54 PM BST
The weighing room area at Worcester looks the same as it has for at least 50 years. I used to go there often in the 70's and 80's but I had to get across town to get to the motorway after racing which could take 2 hours so I have not been back since.
