Just as the shouty man started to speak for the presentations, the camera moved to show the Queen whispering something into Lord Grimethorpe's ear. One can only imagine what was said. Maybe something along the lines of 'Oh they're still not employing that buffoon, are they? Oh dear!'

agree with dirk,a sense of decorum should have been retained for the blue riband flat race of the year

I can't believe the Jockey Club permit the clown to inflict his puerile drivel on those present and watching on tv....it's beyond embarrassing.

The Queen probably thought that she would prefer never to win the Derby if Matt is the presenter. Why are racing fans inflicted with him after he was quickly sent packing from the ice show. He was embarrassing for the Sheikh and his family as well. Whose idea was the shower of rose petals?

I really do wish the guy was taken out/off. What with the racecourses pushing the sale of vast quantities of beer to the lower classes and Chapman's laddish presentation is it any wonder fights break out.Saturday afternoons at the races will soon become no go areas for civilised people.
If someone from itv has to announce/welcome the winners it should be Cumani.Easy on the eye as well as the ear.

small point but for me tells you a lot about his presenting skills, he had just finished his interview with the sheik and

instead f finishing with a polite " thanks for talking " he simply ende it with " over to olly ". LaughLaugh

absolutely CRINGEWORTHY viewing  !!

I'll leave aside the inanity of his presentation style and get to the substance of what he actually says. Yesterday it started with. continued with and endlessly droned on with "IT'S ALL ABOUT SAXON WARRIOR" (shouted of course). Well wide of the mark as it turned out and not remotely unexpected by those of us who laid the favourite (and backed the forecast to a very nice dividend assisted by a 4/5 unplaced favourite). Anyone who has the slightest knowledge of horse racing will tell you that the huge jump from 8 to 12 furlongs is a test for any animal regardless of the grade and how well it did at 8f. So it proved yet again (and there is no clear evidence the favourite "did not stay"). How much of this did Chumpman manage to express logically, quietly and without being just an irritating oaf?

Really tells you the quality of the folk on ITV that Chapman is regarded as the best of the cast.
Can only presume that no one else wanted to do the post-race presentation, so golden bollosks jumped in with both hands.
Surely this cannot go on much longer.

I  like Saturday's when we don't have to listen to him on ATR.

@posy - I was going to say the same as you. Chapman can be partly blamed in my opinion on attracting the CHAV element to the racecourse. ITV should be making every effort to raise standards of presentation. The likes of Chapman present only assist in the acceleration of the dumbing down of these horse racing programmes.

John Motson's not doing much these days since his retirement (met him at Towcester races last week - top professional with a charming personality). I could imagine him presenting on ITV racing and surely would do a better job than Chapman!

I switched over to ATR as soon as they started to talk about fashion - watched for 5 minutes or so and then returned to ITV. Also, I am getting into the habit of turning the sound right down as soon as Chapman starts to speak!

Chapman having a day off, today.

Sat on his sofa with a big bag of throat Lozenges.

He could hand a few to the equally, artificially, over-excitable Irishman Brian Gleeson, too - along with SHOUTY Man, after his 'performance' at Lingfield, last night, aswell.

What trio of self-promoting .....   Cry

I'm incensed that racing is being brought into disrepute by Chapman's antics and have emailed Simon Bazalgette to register a complaint.

Nothing wrong with trying to jazz up the presentations, as Matt clearly tries to do.

The problem is he has a terrible voice, no gravitas, an awful delivery, terrible timing, a limited vocabulary,  no class and a quite unique ability to make even the most charming moment feel like a mistaken fumble down the Dog and Duck.

It really does need to stop.

To me Chapman has got a place in racing and I don't mind him personally but save him for say Plumpton on a Monday afternoon or Windsor in the evening but Epsom on Derby day is not really the gig for him, that's my tuppence worth anyway.
