I would say racing one horse rather than the field counts as doing something wrong.

His horse achieved the best possible placing and didn't quite stay the trip[ on the course. If he was racing one horse, he beat it anyway. He was beaten by the 1st and 2nd, but so was Ryan M, and by Roaring Lion. He is a top class jockey and has few weaknesses, which he will sort out as he develops.
There's always knockers.

he should have given himself the room to ease out rather than having to check and come out.

it might have cost him second, might have.

Oisin Murphy is an absolutely fantastic rider who gave Roaring Lion a tremendous ride in the Derby. While he rode to beat the favourite, and he certainly outthought Moore, he still gave his horse every chance of winning . He was coming with what looked like a successful sweep down the outside until his stamina gave way . Will be a very live possibility in the Eclipse, and the Juddmonte International as well.
On a side note , I’d like to welcome back ima mazed to the forum, hadn’t seen the nutter in a while , it looks like they finally took the strait jacket off him.

That is the single worst winning G1 ride you will ever see.

jonjon - if you need evidence to back up your original assessment, you need something a bit more relevant than today ride.

If he had ridden like that in France he would have lost the race.. A poor ride even though he won methinks

Gosden J - "Oisin (Murphy) rode him beautifully and very coolly. He got too far back, he knew that, and he didn't hurry to get back. It was a very good ride and I'm thrilled".

Methinks you doth protest too much.
He gets the trophy.
Maybe Ryan Moore could be criticised for not winning from where he was, not that he'll care.
It's all opinions and O Murphy will still be riding top class horses next week.

Drawn wide, settled, travelled, quickened and battled. Not a lot more you can ask of a horse. Same can be said of Saxon Warrior but just got touched off, Derby form confirmed.
