I risked £4k to win about £200 on a 4th innings run chase of about 500 in a Test Match.

i had £150,000 on a horse not to win to win me £150

it won.

still lost £200 on the day from the horses earlier

I think the circumstances is the bigger factor than amount.... know a bloke who was in charge of the office petty cash & with over a week til end of month pay day took a "loan" of it on his lunch hour, where he put the lot ( couple hundred quid ) on an odds on horse....... it won, the petty cash was restocked no one even knew it had left the building....!!

biggest myth in gambling is that you need to bet a lot to win a lot, that is why 99,9% of bettors will never grasp or understand this simple fact. goodluck

Back in the day I called a £2,200+ shove on an online poker cash game holding the nut quads on the turn. The greek guy then rivered his 1 outer; bar steward then gloated at scooping the £4,500 + pot.

This is a true story that was actually told by my mate to others at a funeral yesterday, a few years back, my mate, who is a taxi driver had a fare going to BBC Studio, the man was a producer on the Eurovision Song Contest, and told him Greece would win, he rings me up straight away, I managed to get £1400 with various firms, at 9/4 and 2/1, the price crumbled,being sad a load of us went round his house to watch, it never started well but soon they collected top votes and won easy

One that sticks in my mind is when Ice Warrior got beat at Market Rasen under AP almost 10 years ago. I know it's scarcely believable now but had around £8K on at 5/4-1/1. Two horse race on paper and went off 10/11 after they flip flopped. 2nd fav was beat miles out but got done a neck by one of the rags.

I laid one of martin pipes at cheltenham in one of the big handicap hurdle races, it got backed off the boards and kept telling myself what poor value it was,the shorter it got the more i had on eventually i was in for most of my bank close to 80 k horse finished 2nd and i nearly had heart attack.

£300@16/1 Garrison Savannah,in Grand National that was void, still convinced it would have won it.

In 1997 I took a few bets from some guys from Teeside, they asked me for a price on the Borough to get into Europe, I thought about it and offered them 10/1 and they asked for £160 between them at 10s paid on.

The next day they rang me and asked could they have the same amount again, at this point I didn't want it; as they had just started betting with me;but couldn't decline it.

The outcome was the Borough got into 2 cup finals, league and FA, sat in the house on the Sunday for the League cup final, Borough v Leicester, nil nil half time, nil nil full time, first half of extra time Ravenelli scores for the Borough, then they started playing injury time in the second half, at this point I was sweating like a nun in a knocking shop so I jumped in the car to take a ride out and with the radio playing the commentator says " I don't believe it Leicester have equalised" I got out of the car and started jumping up and down in the middle of the road with relief, Leicester went on to win the replay.

A couple of weeks later Chelsea beat the Borough and it was all over after 52 seconds, I would like to thank Emile Heskey. as if it wasn't for you there might have been a body under the A19.

Had a cracking June 2016 on the horses, notably from Ribchester, Portage and Sir Isaac Newton at Royal Ascot. I added more to this and had a big pot to risk the following month on The Open at Troon. Laid out a grand on my pre-tourney bets, then when most were out of contention after the second day added more to my portfolio and laid out another £500. Going into the final day, I was £1,500 down with neither Henrik or Lefty covered. So I had a further £1,500 on Lefty to clear everything. The evening got worse. The Barbasol Championship was into its final day on the PGA Tour. The coverage was from the can on TV however, so I was following it on the PGA tour website.In running I backed Si Woo-Kim at twentysomething to one to clear 3 grand. He went on a roll and got in the clubhouse leading by two from Aaaron Baddeley,  who had two holes to play and needed to birdie them both to get in a play off. At that time I could have took a profit of 2K and limited the losses over the few days but being a greedy sod I wanted to clear everything for the week so let it stand. Needless to say Baddeley birdied the last two and won the play off. In work the following day people ask, 'How d'ya do on the Golf,', 'Perhaps a little down' I reply.

At the time High Chaparral 2002 derby, just back from Thailand skint and was desperate to go back as was in love, sold everything i owned which was peanuts, amounted to £500 and shoved it all E/W on Chaparral at 9/2.....drifted so badly all day before they clipped it back in to 7/2 plus they smashed into The Jolly and stable mate Hawk Wing, I prayed Dont let me Down Johnny Murtagh! Worse thing was had to listen to it on the radio. So hearing Hawk Wing Looming on the Bridle with 2f to go thought the dream to fly straight back to the land of smiles was over.....getting that God awful feeling in my stomach.... Then i heard but high Chaparral is getting away again...... Mick v Johnny both legends but give me Murtagh anytime, he's got me out of some very deep holes many a time.
Changed my life that result was back out to Thailand a few days later with £1500 after a cheap flight, miss those days when the sterling was pretty strong.....got a job and stayed there on and off for over ten years, The rest is history, have had bigger bets since but at that time its was huge amount at stake and not just money.

Southend vs ManURE league cup about 12 years ago.Backed ManURE 6/4 after about 30 mins when they were one nil down.  Primadonnas hardly raised an effort, hence my hatred of the ****s. A very expensive lesson learned wiped out a carefully nurtured balance after a very successful summer of betting on horse racing.  Rrquired two huge bets on Kauto Star in Tingle Creek and King George to get me out of hock, hence my love of the horse.
