BF have asked me for proof of ID colour photo on driving licence passport proof of address photo of my debit card. I have been with them for many years WHY now?
Asking for a colour photo is racist, tell them so and your withdrawal will go through immediately - they probably just want to see what a winning punter looks like !
I would certainly not send a photo of a debit card - that is a strange request

I tried to withdraw £550 they have suspended my account. This request was sent via email. Im moderately successful but my max bet is only £100 an average bet would be between £40-£80.I wouldn't have thought that would ring any alarm bells.

have you ever withdrawn before, or maybe you are changing the method of withdrawal, new card etc also change of address usually gets a request?
if the account is frozen they clearly have a reason to ask
if your account is legit then it's easy enough to comply and if you don't it'll probably stay frozen

I have changed nothing since a new card was issued from my bank at least a year ago. I agree there will be a reason. Any business would strive to make any decisions of this kind perfectly transparent. This they failed to do in spades. They did not even confirm that my request for £550 withdrawal will be completed as soon as they receive the information.

I cant agree with that elise, no one should own a picture of you other than a government department. Think what they could do with it, next he could be barred from all PP shops.

Are you 100% certain that the email IS from Betfair - have you spoken/had contact with them?
As for the Account being 'Frozen' ...
Could a fraudster hack into an account and Self-Exclude you - thus giving the impression of a 'Frozen' Account?

Good advice. The website confirms Im suspended showing my bank with my withdrawal not actioned. The helpdesk also confirmed that security have suspended 'they don't tell us anything other than that'. Im advised that when I send the information they will say the picture is not clear enough or other reason to delay or worse. What can I do to get them to unfreeze????

Money Laundering only comes into question if the amount is consistently over many thousands (not small hundreds) and regularly and repeatedly usually over a short period of time,...that was the legal advise I was given when faced with a similar scenario from a "cowboy" bookie - mine was only £200 including stake.

I have tried to find out the reason for withholding my funds £650 to no avail. They have waited until I wanted to withdraw a substantial sum (£550) before requiring the ID. They want the information so they are saying 'let us have it' or you don't get your money. Its been suggested that its a money laundering check. My last 3 withdrawals have been following £60-100 on average bets on a 5/1 12/1 10/1 winner. I have no idea about the MO on laundering money but any idiot could see that's not the way to do it. I have received worrying outcomes when I send them the info e.g. Photo not clear enough please re-send etc Justice for Punters tell me it could be months before they relent. I have told them to close my account and send the funds surely if I go away Im not a problem for them but they decline.Do I have no other choice surely Im not the only customer who has had this problem

@rayman -- yes it is unfair and you have every right to feel aggrieved but the simple fact is that Betfair holds all the cards. They've got the KYC and money laundering laws, they've even got the need to check you are over 18 and have not self-excluded, but most importantly, they've got your money. So do as @elise says and spend 30 seconds to clear this up.
As my old lawyer used to say, "point of principle" is the most expensive phrase in the English language.

there's something not right in this, you were calling your worries re photo id before you say you'd sent it
there is no reason betfair would not send the money if you complied, getting a good photo of your paperwork or a scan is simple, emailing it is equally simple, you seem to be evading this for some reason?
regardless of what their reasons are if you are running a single account in your own name this would be an absolute doddle to resolve

It sounds like he's sent photo I.D and they've told him it's not clear enough?
I wouldn't have a clue how to send these things by email. I'd have to photocopy them somewhere and then send it all by post. Not only is it a long drawn out process like that, it's very short odds that the wrong department receive it, or they're in no rush to resolve it when it does find the right place.

Ramruma-Yes I will send the info. I have read the GC reasons for ID demands however I have been a customer since 2003 so surely I must be over 18. Im well up over that time so I wouldn't self exclude. This isn't a 'principle' thing. I have had various worrying outcomes and I would like to know if there is any truth in them hence I hope somebody else can advise who has gone through this process.

If one funds one's account thro' a debit/credit card or Paypal and has an up-to-date Electoral Roll/Register info eg a voter from this address, credit references, etc, that should be adequate info for id verification for a UK based betting entity; your account held since 2003 is a massive positive too. If one's bank/s have not initiated/instigated Money Laundering action/query against one presently or in the past neither there be any need for a UK based betting entity especially for the (small) amount concerned. This looks a classic example/tactic used by a betting entity to frustrate rather than facilitate a withdrawal. Their sole reason is (hoping) one loses it all.
If this is 'betfair's new approach to customer service regards withdrawal post the newly adopted terms and conditions it could mean more pain and inconvenience for other customers of 'betfair' in due course for sure.

Impossible-Good advice. As no other posters have had this problem. It looks like this is a new tactic. I believe it will happen when customers try to withdraw substantial amounts. It could happen at their discretion when a winner is voided due to suspending an account. I have a big problem with this as if Im allowed to resume betting with them will I be able to withdraw funds following a winning bet or get 'Im sorry sir your winning bet was declared void as your account had been suspended'.

Your £550 is not a substantial amount. Whatever triggered this, it ain't that.

Ramruma-I agree. Hence I asked the question. Security directed me to the helpdesk. The helpdesk told me 'security don't tell us anything' Can you be sure if you do have a 'substantial' win will they tell you your account had been suspended therefore your bet was declared void?

if your account is dodgy, ie operating on someone else's card, duplicate accounts to acquire bonus or avoid restrictions/premium charge etc then they have previously linked those accounts and treated them as one taking any charges / fees that they deem are theirs
you are still coming up with scenarios that seem a bit paranoid to me, it's as though you know there's a problem when a simple" send the correct info and it's fixed" is all that's required
only you know why there's a problem, but most experienced users of this site will tell you that betfair only suspend when they have good grounds and if you provide the correct details they will pay you

i cannot see how they won't pay you, as ramruna said the amount is not a lot, even if your details have changed slightly so long as you can provide id with d.o.b etc you'll get the cash
i was going to ask how you are signing in to use forum because normally they lock you out completely, but maybe they just suspended your withdrawal not your entire account?

Good point Im signed in on the forum same log in details no problem.I accept they will pay me eventually but my confidence to bet will now be a problem. The impending case of the 1million bet not being paid is an example.

'rayman'...I've not had any issue with 'betfair' concerning past withdrawals (all under £1k) as the info I've facilitated are all up-to-date and genuine. Nevertheless, it could happen in the near future post the newly adopted policies. If so, not only would I be very annoyed but most probably close the account too.
I did have a similar issue to yours with another UK and non-UK based betting entities both seduced by promotions; the UK based one eventually released a small win (£200), the other (£15) did not but I lost in the next bet (deliberately). If I had won (big payout) I'd have pursued thro' the proper channels, if necessary.
Good Luck!

if it's that they cannot read it, then get a better camera / phone, upload better images or scan it / photocopy or whatever is needed to get a decent image
if you don't have one get someone to do it for you
if the ID doesn't match, well talk to them directly, ask for a manager to call you to talk it through
if it's something else then tell us what it is, is this linked to the wrong bank, someone else's maybe a family member?

Im sure the demand for ID etc was to frustrate and hope I would go away. They were always going to close my account. So why have I been banned? The email told me the reason was 'business grounds' for this read Im not profitable to them. I rang CS they guy was confused as I was he had comments on my file indicating that a new account was to be arranged but he could also see the account closed email. After making enquiries he is trying to get the ok to pay me my funds.

have you ever excluded from a gambling site Rayman? Incidentally you can ask for a data subject access request where they have to supply all info held on file https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/personal-information/
Someone on another forum was barred by pkrstars and he had no idea why. By getting a dsar they uncovered incorrect info relating to someone else and had their account reinstated.

Somewhat mystifying this .
".... hope I would go away. They were always going to close my account" .... WHY?
HOW do you KNOW that?
If you are betting on the Exchange - then you can only BE, "profitable to them."
As ... If you Win = You PAY BETFAIR COMMISSION
If you Lose = The person who has won from you PAYS BETFAIR COMMISSION
If you have merely been 'one-tick trading', or similar activity - and, consequently incurred few losses against mostly successes - then you, surely, become a contender to PAY BETFAIR the PREMIUM CHARGE
If your Winnings are from the Sportsbook - and you have not said whether they are, or not - Then, yes, you could be considered, "not profitable to them."
Even so - You would think that they would STILL LET YOU BET on the EXCHANGE ... as BETFAIR cannot Lose TO You on the Exchange.
- and then, of course - surely they would want to keep your account open .... so that you could play on Arcade, and other Games.

Onlooker/Sparrow are on the right track methinks. Rayman has been on here a long time so he must have changed his modus operandi in recent times. I have been on here quite some time and if Betfair started messing me about, I would definitely have some clue as to why. They surely don't just unilaterally start being awkward. Us long termers have track records,so they know all about our betting patterns. Something stinks here, but only Rayman knows why.

Let me assure you I really have no idea why I have been banned. My MO is as it has always been. I 99% bet on horse racing.I have a staking plan £40-£100. I have 2/3 bets a week always win only. I was banned from their Sportsbook (but they told me I could I could continue to use the exchanges) ages ago after 40 bets. After paying for the Form Book Racing UK and a daily Racing Post my profit from punting is modest. I can only guess that they have come to the conclusion that their admin on my account is just not worth the bother after taking my commission. I'm aware of the restrictions and banning across the industry using similar tactics however I'm not aware of the exchanges adopting them. I have contacted the GC Justice or Punters The RP and HBF to make them aware of my experience on what seems a new policy by the exchanges. If I had anything to hide I surely would not take these measures would I? Rest assured I wont be the last to be treated in this way.

I have to disagree that this is a simple request to resolve that takes 30 seconds lol!! I've done it on numerous occasions, but have often found it a pain in the @rse. I still can't remember how to scan something, so have to get the wife to scan it for me (must have a mental block) and then all my billing is now paperless, so actually finding a recent bill is a right pain because I don't know my login details, so have to contact the utility company to actually locate and download a bill. I'm always switching suppliers to save money too. Further often the site that requests the stuff, doesn't accept the format, so you have to seek help again in how to copy it in an acceptable format. Fair renough if it is for KYC purposes and I expect this is just random and the OP is just unlucky, but often imo companies just do it because they don't like winners and are deliberately trying to make you work a little bit harder for your winnings.

If you think Betfair are hard work don't open an accopunt with 188bet. They want 5 or more different documents - passport/driving license, utility bill, scan of bank card(s), bank statements relating to those cards, statements from any e-wallet used. I just let them suspend the account as there was no balance at the time when they requested all this. Must have been with them for at least 8 years when they were an Asian bookie.
