Depends how you rate the 2nd. White Mocha has looked like a 85 horse before today, on face value Masar may have run to 105/107 if White Mocha has run to his form. Which you wouldn't expect to be good enough to win a Guineas. If White Mocha has improved 10lb or so, then he's in the reckoning. Roaring Lion has not run anywhere near his best.

take the 2nd out of the race (who has clearly run miles below form) then that form is shocking relative to group 1 standards

Masar was race fit. Roaring Lion was not. he destroyed the field but he didn't beat anything great. 2000 Gs will be a different ball game

Very much so delta I was just over a furlong out the change of pace visually was amazing,it may well be the gosden horse ran below form but in all the cravens I have seen this was by some way the best performance.

By the way I thought it was an really good 3 days with loads to look forward to.

White Mocha is entered in the Guineas, Dante and Derby as are the 3rd and 4th, so while it might nor have beat much, it might turn out that the opposition was decent.  You just don't know.  9 lengths is a long way.  Only one horse has won the Craven bt 5 lengths or more since Haafhd won the Craven in 2004 by 5 lengths

Please correct me if I am wrong but I took a look at the Timeform website and the new rating was 126 which was the same as the winner Churchill last year.  I looked at the results page and the rating given there was 126.

BHA figures have the winner running to 115, White Mocha 101, Roaring Lion 100.

This would suggest Roaring Lion has run a stone below par, and White Mocha has improved 3-4lbs from 2-3. The winner posts a figure around 5lb better than his best form, but still a figure that wouldn't beat Roaring Lions' 117 at Doncaster last year. Glorious Journey has run to 94 (ran 108 in France but possibly didn't stay yesterday and may have needed the run) and Just Brilliant 92 which is fair based on his 81 winning debut, so may have improved 10lb from 2 to 3. Sir Hamilton has run 85 eased down which again is fair given he ran to 90 in a handicap recently, and 5lb could easily be accounted for in not staying and being eased off.

I feel the figures above are a fair reflection of the race, and whilst the 1st and 2nd have improved on their best form, it is still not the level of the 3rd's best run from last season, but the winner is probably only 5-10lb shy of what would be a Guineas winning figure most years.

It remains to be seen if there is 18lb+ to be found from Roaring Lion for the run, and whilst he may not have been expected to run to his best, they were expecting much more than him running to 100. I get the impression he may not have trained on from 2 to 3, as he isn't the most imposing of colts and he travelled well enough but failed to finish his race.

I don't think Masar has shown enough to suggest a reproduction of this run would win the Guineas, but it's certainly enough to see him in the first 4 or 5 home. With 5-10lb improvement he would certainly be in the firing line.

wd foxy, hope you kept the faith for the Derby!

i have to be honest delta i did not have a bet in this years derby as i did not like the ground at epsom on friday so just got involved at worcester,a few friends did ask what i fancied and masar was my suggestion to them so there should be a couple of drinks in it for me.he is clearly a very good horse but as in any derby winner it will be a while before we know how good he is,i thought it was great how the mark johnson horse ran.
