Always surprises just how many horses are laid 'for pennies' at huge odds - very EARLY in the Market

Last race Winner - at Cork - BSP 23.0

110            £3
120            £1
130        £0    £0
140            £3
160        £0
390        £0
400        £0
440        £0
480        £0
500        £0
700            £4
---------

Takes some getting back at just £2 a chip.

Not "penny pinching" at those odds - the rounding errors that let 1p layers steal money don't exist past odds of 20.

Would be interesting to know what is placing those bets though.  Curious.

Probably a would-be bot programmer who's career is over almost before it started.

is it not something along these lines:

For a price to be displayed on an early Betfair market is has to be for a minimum of £2
e.g. £2 back at 400/1 is displayed to be matched whereas a £1.99 back is not displayed. (I know you have to engineer a £1.99 back btw)

Someone who is keen to reduce the spread on a particular horse might not like the idea of a 400 priced being displayed so he lays it for a penny thereby taking the price display off the market
