is it not something along these lines:
For a price to be displayed on an early Betfair market is has to be for a minimum of £2 e.g. £2 back at 400/1 is displayed to be matched whereas a £1.99 back is not displayed. (I know you have to engineer a £1.99 back btw) Someone who is keen to reduce the spread on a particular horse might not like the idea of a 400 priced being displayed so he lays it for a penny thereby taking the price display off the market |
