Anyone remember the old CSF charts? They were brilliant for clued up punters. Completely out of line with the true odds. Available for a good while before they cottoned on.
Genuine example. 3 horse race. Pendil, Charles Dickens and Amarind. 2/13 6/1 and 25/1
CSF paid about £1-90 for Pendil to beat Charles Dickens and something like a 16/1 Pendil to beat the outsider. Fun and profitable while it lasted. Can't remember if it was just the independents.

Diminuendo beating Sudden Love in the Oaks at 16/1; Burrough Hill Lad and Forget 'N' Forget (Gold Cup); Rhyme 'N' Reason in the Grand National despite sliding on his belly on the way to victory; Rodrigo de Triano in the 2000G with Piggott perched motionless 2 out having been beaten in the Greenham on easy ground previously; Sinndar and Quest For Fame (Derby). And The Pentagon and September (Derby and Oaks, hopefully).

There's a bit in Alex Bird's book where he humbly brags about having the Venture to Cognac/Complete-rag-of-three forecast up in a race where long odds-on Gold Cup winner Little Owl fell. He reckons that was the result that made bookies change the way forecasts were calculated.

My Grandad tried to convince me that the union jack 'bonanza' was the best bet you could have, however you needed the ability to bend the laws of physics in order to write the chuffing thing out on a betting slip.

Remember my mates dad always getting me To put on his daily £1 round robin, i think back in the days it was a total stake of £11, i still don't know how to work out the returns to this day.

Me neither Glasgow no matter how many times people tried to show me I never understood them.
Spent a bit of time looking back on little owls career didn’t realise he was sent of favourite for the 1979 coral cup at the festival he finished 2nd to the legendary willie wumpkins ,his next run was at the grand national meeting the race title shows how small a fixture it was back then he ran in the emlyn Hughes handicap hurdle,I remember back in the late 80s the two best chasers of the time kildimo and Dessie running against each other there was hardly a soul on the racecourse, how that fixture has come on,back to little owl two races before his gold cup win he won a race named after the opening posters favourite bet the tote daily double chase at the Cheltenham January fixture probably now known as the Cotswold chase, ridden by aj Wilson in the gold cup it helped him become the last ameatuer to win the leading jockey of the meeting,it was kempton where he took part in a crooked race which was most probably the reason the csf was changed,he beat bregawn in the 1982 tommy whittle in the days haydock had fantastic midweek national hunt racing.he ran 3 times at Nottingham a magnificent jumps track he ended his career trained by John edwards.
Off course non of this will get any of us any money but I did find it interesting looking back at his career
