How many winning posts are there at Sandown?

Why have 2 winning posts in the first place or am I just being being thick?

It was all explained on the Opening Show Denzil.

I don't watch the racing channels but it is surely possible to just adjust the starting positions and have 1 winning post?
By:
WD Delta. You probably first asked that in 2007!
By:
No Denzil, the last fence and last hurdle are at different angles coming up the hill, so the chasers have to go further.

Ok jmdc but why can't they just have 1 winning post and accept that for e.g 2 mile races the hurdle track could 1 mile 198 yards or whatever and the chasers 2 miles.
i mean adjust the distances in name or will that not work either? |
By:
^ Correct - It is not the STARTS - after all - we have all these daft distances like 2m 73yds - and 2m 55yds.... irrespective of where the Winning Post is - at many different tracks.

By:
if you have 1 winning post (say the hurdle winning post) then the inside rail is significantly shorter to the winning line on the chase track than the outside rail (should be equal on a straight run in...which it is with the chase winning post)
By:
and you have a corresponding problem on the hurdles course if you adopt the chase winning post

By:
wonder is presenting the correct argument as explained by Hoiles this morning.
