Oh dear. He was the good thing I wanted to oppose on Tuesday. Hope it is nothing serious and he pops up at Aintree and Punchestown.

Definitely suspicious activity but back into 3.00 - might just be Mullins crew manipulating the market, won't be the first time.

Have backed Sceau Royal (7/1) and Invitation Only (25/1) nrnb in the hope Footpad gets withdrawn.
Report foxy March 3, 2018 2:36 PM GMT
i hope he does not get withdrawn as its looks the race of the week and i would prefer to see the best take each other on if i am wrong with my bet then must do better next time.

Interesting if Domino's information is correct as no mention in Bromley's statement after chatting to Mullins. Chris Cook spoke to Mullins too i think.

reportedly backed for jlt though

If what'domino' said was true Mullins and connections would have plenty to explain should he miss Cheltenham.
Report Bullseye2012 March 3, 2018 7:59 PM GMT
Bromley has released a statement saying; "Absolutely nothing has changed," Bromley said.

"I've spoken to Willie today. The horse exercised today. He's absolutely fine, no problems with the horse. There's no reason to change from the original plan all winter which has been the Arkle.

"People are obviously having a non-runner no bet, so they get their money back. He's obviously longer odds in the JLT.

"As of today there are no issues with the horse. We've got 10 days to the Arkle.

"The final decision will be made next weekend but there's no change of plan and we don't understand why (he has drifted in the Arkle). It's probably not much money that's changed it anyway.

"I've checked with Willie. There are no issues. It's all systems go and we are going for the Arkle."

probably explain that he bled and had to miss cheltenham ! one of them things imp ,shapenns !
Report impossible123 March 3, 2018 9:20 PM GMT
What 'domino14' posted was detailed and specific, and if true could jeopardise his Cheltenham participation. But this was not mentioned by Bromley in the statement.

Betting wise I'm covered. I had Petit Mouchoir at 12/1 post his setback, but I'd rather have two silver bullets in a race than one.
Report eric_morris March 4, 2018 2:05 AM GMT
It will be the market manipulators laying the few quid on the red side to make it look like he is out to then try and ask for a bigger price. Happens every year many times over.

One jumping mistake from this horse and he wont win.
Report eric_morris March 4, 2018 2:08 AM GMT
At Evens he was by far the worst price favourite of the Festival. Would expect him to go to 2s on the day as the race cuts up. Dangers to him all over even if he does put in a clean round of jumping.
Report koikeeper March 4, 2018 7:46 AM GMT
Dangers to him all over even if he does put in a clean round of jumping.

From what I've seen there is nothing that will trouble him in this field.
His JUMPING is superb .. an absolute natural.
Report Gordon63 March 4, 2018 8:29 AM GMT
koi he may be a good jumper but is he really better than saint calvados - that horse skimmed each fence at warwick, not a second too long in the air - in any case, the cheltenham fences and Arkle pace will be unlike anything this field has encountered - basically they can all trouble footpad!!

Report FOYLESWAR March 4, 2018 10:17 AM GMT
think there are plenty of dangers koi ,not likely to get a soft lead  , most of his form is on soft  and a few of these have shown very usefull form and are unexposed over fences ,of course he could still win but weather  there is nothing to trouble him is another matter !
Report eric_morris March 4, 2018 11:31 AM GMT
All about price and Evs was terrible value for a horse who has beaten very little other than a returning from injury Petit Mouchoir who hit a couple of fences yet still finished tanking several lengths off Footpad who had to put in a perfect round to beat him.
Report Deptford March 4, 2018 11:52 AM GMT
Cant agree with that eric, he cant make mistakes like that at Cheltenham and win, and he paddled up the run in, Footpad is electric over a fence
Report hulk23 March 4, 2018 11:58 AM GMT
going to wait to see if it drifts to 5/1 five minutes before the off .... and 13/8 a place
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 4, 2018 12:01 PM GMT
They're surely going to ride Petit Mouchoir more aggressively at the festival, the only reason he was ridden with more restraint at Leopardstown was because it was his prep after a layoff.

When he finished in front of Footpad every time last season over hurdles he front ran and his form went to another level over hurdles being ridden more positively, I expect them to try and pop him out in front at the festival which could lead to a fierce pace with Saint Calvados in it as well.
Report eric_morris March 4, 2018 12:07 PM GMT
Deptford you dont see what i mean. I am saying if Footpad doesn't put in a perfect round in a hectic Arkle he isnt that far clear of the others to be able to still win.

Report FOYLESWAR March 4, 2018 12:33 PM GMT
should be a great race 3 who like to make the pace or be close to it flying the fences and at least 4 who you could make a solid case for .
Report impossible123 March 4, 2018 5:43 PM GMT
Should be a good race if all 3 turn up, and I mightily hoping.

Saint Calvados was mightily impressive when thumping his opponents last time. However, not too sure about the performances of his several market challengers. I think they did not run to form as the conditions were awful.

What can one not like about Footpad? He was as natural a novice chaser I've ever seen; he seems to float over his fences with ease and dexterity. No doubt Petit Mouchoir (PM) has superior form over Footpad but the Arkle is over fences. And I'm none too convinced about PM's fencing, tbh.

Footpad, Saint Calvados and Petit Mouchoir, take your pick. Sceau Royal could benefit should these three cut one another's throat at the front, possibly.
Report jimeen March 4, 2018 6:30 PM GMT
If San Calvados wins the Arkle I will strongly consider retirement. Without doubt it’s the worst 5/1 chance at the meeting.
If I was given 50/1 I wouldn’t back it.
Report MJK March 4, 2018 7:12 PM GMT
Everyone assuming Footpad has to lead. I'm sure if anything was fast enough to lead him at Cheltenham they'd be happy to take a lead.
Report BornToWin March 4, 2018 7:38 PM GMT
I thought PM had a satisfactory return Davy was never going to get too serious, and am hopeful of getting closer or possibly past Footpad on the big day.

Hopefully that would be enough to win.
