No bet. I haven't had a football bet for years so I'm largely in agreement with wazza. Can't see Man City winning Champs League unless they score 4 goals each game. Defence not good enough against the best teams in Europe.

short-priced football teams getting beat is hardly new but willie now seems obsessed by the subject
happens in every sport that is bet on its why bookies/exchanges exist |
|
By:
True enough but in the massive majority of matches there is no edge. The bookies have the prices correct with their percentage or exchange commission/PC. Even if you spot a mistake pre-match there's a good chance the ref plays too big a part.

Willie loves being the big fish in a small pond (I mean on here btw). The majority of other 'six fig winners each year' don't waste all their time on here.

as we saw with both Spurs and Man City, it is a good idea to check who is playing before you bet. Reserve teams rarely win.

I agree with Howard about the role of the referee, and that's why I gave up single-match betting on football about six years ago. A red card, particularly if it's early in the game, and even more particularly if it's against the away team, pretty much determines the outcome of the match. I've kept no statistics, but a straight win bet is more or less doomed if your team goes a man down unless they were in front and manage to hang on, or they're a class better than the opposition (Barca, a few others).
It's the principle - I can't think of any other sport where the punishment is so disproportionate to the crime, especially when the sending off is for a second yellow. There was a case years ago in a lower division where a player got two yellows, one for taking his shirt off when he scored, and the other for encroaching at an opposition free kick. The NFL and RU punish fouls, particularly technical infringements, by giving yardage or penalties, RL gives a scrum and a fresh set of six. I really think FIFA have got this wrong, and that expulsion for two things which aren't crimes against the person is excessive. My solution would be a different (green?) card for technical offences, perhaps leading to a match-ban under a totting-up system. In a word, football is now so fast and so physical that the loss of a player is a game-changer. When you add in the fact that some referees like to dish out a yellow in the first few minutes just to 'stamp their authority' I'd say that betting big on single games is really very chancy. It doesn't matter whether the bookies have priced it up right or wrong, a red card is a killer. |

By:
Me personally rarely bet on domestic cup games but if your comparing football to horse racing you can't because in football you have a lot more options. In horse racing you can bet a horse or lay it thats about it.
