I dont normally have any major gripe against anyone who works in the industry , and if i do its not a major issue , but this guy takes it to another level for me.
To use the word "hate" is a strong sentiment that i rarely use - but with this guy i can honestly say that i hate him with a vengeance.
When i think of him i picture everything that is wrong with UK horseracing and why its a sport in decline.
I dont see the benefit that the general public can get from his Racing journalism ......and for years now he just goes through the motions in a pompous way.
I have just been watching him on Racing Uk this morning and it left me thinking that the racing industry, both in administration and media , need to get their fcukin acts together.
There is just so many things that highlight that his interest in the game is a facade and appeals to no one . You can even tell that his interest in the game is non existent by the amount of bullshit he talks - you can see that he is just going through the motions when talking about horses in his normal and flat monotone dribble. He never surprises anyone with any out of the box thinking or anything from left field ...you can tell its just too much for him nowadays.
You can really get a picture of his drab and pointless racing journalism by just going through his twitter account - if you compare it to someone like Nick Luck twitter account
This proves my point - just have a look at this tweet today - where he joins in on slagging off the RacingBlogger .
I gotta go now and count to ten - dont get me started on those stupid fcukin cravate he wears...it just proves as to what a pompous cretin he is.
He is terrible but I am struggling with the idea that you can hate him but don't mind the rest.
Slagging the racing blogger is a rare plus point in my opinion.

A horse racing pundit or tipster is akin to a goalkeeper facing a penalty kick; if the goalkeeper saves a penalty he/she would be lauded similarly a racing pundit/tipster if he/she tips a winner. However, if the goalkeeper lets in the penalty he/she will not be blamed as he/she'd not be expected to save the penalty in the 1st place similarly if the racing pundit tips a loser.
In a nutshell the goalkeeper or racing pundit/tipster will not be blamed if unsuccessful.

I’ve read somewhere that he just picks his selections randomly and doesn’t give 2 hoots whether they win or lose.
Just as lazy as me really for not remembering the origin of this information.

don't dislike him as a person but is an hopeless pundit...........apart from steve mellish and eddie fremantle they are all useless........with nevison probably the worse

He's really trying to be something he isn't, that cravat and those female sunglasses he wears makes him look like Quentin Crisp. As for he's tipping, he is useless. He proves beyond doubt, that its not what you know, its Who you know.

This is ludicrously late but I just stumbled on this character's twitter feed and Oh dear but you're right. I used to read the Mirror's racing pages as a boy and wondered idly who Bouverie and Newsboy were. I remember reading a piece about Bob Butcher and thinking what a nice, old fashioned buffer he was. I now realise that this Yates character is the odd-looking buffoon who appears over the trainer's shoulder when he's being interviewed on telly - looking like one of the Three Stooges/Giant Haystacks trying to dress like an English Gent.

What is laughable is you can't post the name of the Irish poet WB or the famous racehorse named after him on here. The only explanation I have seen is that his is a proscribed name, like I believe Millington was a few years ago,but somewhat hilariously there has been a confusion over the spelling.

acey...he has been newsboy for at least 15 years but never finished in the plus so can't see the problem with him being an "expert" analyst on Racing tv

He is a classic case of someone who has the knowledge and ability to write about sport but zero charisma and a very poor delivery of what he says. I find him by far the hardest pundit to listen to on either racing channel. He frequently stops in the middle of a sentence.

He wears a cravat because he has a fat neck, think a medical issue. So just feels comfy rather than a tie. Plus he didn’t bite when goaded by Calvin. Kept his decorum and rose above it. Calvin left shadow boxing. Form is temporary but class is permanant. Walked tall and got on with the day job.

Not too bothered about Yates either way and Calvin used to be OK but he went down in my estimations ever since the A/C's were first talked about and he voiced his concerns but since then now says that he'd have no problem handing over personal info to whoever....what's changed, perhaps that BF have been one of the most active on this and they pay him.
Have asked numerous times on the weighed in pod and despite his saying that all questions are addressed one way or another, have yet to hear it brought up on the pod.

I agree...hes just looking to keep in with betfair and paddy..as for the weighed in pod it's starting to get a bit stale..Calvin also keeps brushing off questions about Hugh Cahill no longer presenting and why Bin Ryllie seems to have taken over.Best tipping pod imo is the paddypower tipping one especially when Delargy and Frank Hickey are on...the most interesting comment sort of one is the Barstewards one.
