Sad day, met him a couple of times many years ago.
Always followed his runners when the likes of Dato Star, Tullymurry Toff & Go Informal were progressing.
Rest In Peace Mr Jefferson.

Great training feat when his two festival winners followed up at aintree - lets hope waiting patiently does the business for the family in major race somewhere soon

George Chaloner @Chaloner1George The Greatest Man I have ever met. Malcolm Jefferson was more than just a boss, but a true friend. I owe everything to this man as without him I wouldn’t have had a successful riding career nor become the man I am today. RIP Mr Jefferson.
Only 71. What a ******* is cancer.

Agree with the above post. Really saddened by this news. Whilst it was inevitable it is one of the few times that I feel emotional about the passing of someone I didnt really know but had so much respect for.
I'll never forget a quote of his in The Weekender during his Dato Star days. It went along the lines of:
"You can take a good horse to the (cheltenham) Festival, get no luck and come away with nothing. You can take a good horse, get some luck and have a winner. But take a horse thats no good and you will come back empty handed!"
In other words, if you see one of mine at the festival, its not there for a day out and was so pleased for him when he had a double there a few years back. We will miss you Malcolm.

Desperately saddened by Malcolm's passing. A true master a trainer with a very individual way of handling them and excellent tactitian. Growing up with a love of racing I've idolised several northern trainers. The late Arthur Stephenson and Gordon Richards are now sadly joined by Malcolm Jefferson. Waiting patiently is currently my favourite horse in training. I saw him win this season at Carlisle and Malcolm was there, humble as always.

IN HINDSIGHT ITS uncanny how you rdrawn a trainers horses for no ryme or reason because of the man,his horses, set up don't think it would be profit over the long term same with cecil who I was brought up on backing his horses, but watching all jeffersons big winners on ruk there, I bet I,d backed 99% of them, must be something about you don't mind backing losers when trained by certain trainers, whilst others no matter how many winners they train just leave you cold
