Actually, thinking back, I remember being at Ayr for the Scottish Grand National in 1967, and Eddy Harty rode a finish a circuit too early on Stalbridge Colonist. He tried to get him going again , but IIRC the horse understandably refused at the next fence.
You wouldn't have caught Stan Mellor making a mistake like that. |

Thank you, Bruce.

12 days (of Christmas) ban.
At least the stewards are keeping it topical. |

Will miss the ride on Pipers Piping?
|

By:
Suppose 12 days is harsh if compared to the 10 days they sometimes hand out to non-jiggers, officially referred to as 'failing to take all permissible measures to obtain the best possible position', at least Hornby tried to win the race
![]() 10 days for riding a non-jigger vs 12 days for what appeared a genuine mistake, it's a funny old game... |

Then again, suppose such instances do represent an integrity issue, say for example an unscrupulous jockey wants to 'stop' one as his 'friends' have laid it large on the exchanges, what better way is there than to ride a finish a circuit too soon, eh?
Sorry guv, didn't realise there was another circuit to go, I do apologise... Along with failing to weigh in, perhaps stronger deterrents are called for? |

I've never backed a horse where the jockey has ridden a finish a circuit too early, but I've backed plenty where they've ridden a finish a circuit too late

Well Aladdin he was called many worse names last night Can jockeys not hear the race commentary?
|
|
By:
use of the whip was odd. he was 8 lengths in front with nobody else trying and yet he felt the need to administer the persuader 5 times inside the final furlong. all rather curious .... ?
|
|
By:
Very unprofessional of him. I wonder was he drug and alcohol tested? Still everyone makes mistakes so hopefully he learns and tries harder in future for success.
