Fecking joke, first Mullins said Un De Sceaux was going for the Tingle Creek (85k) and Douvan for the Hilly Way (35k), then a few days later said Douvan was going for the Tingle Creek. Both horses are still in both races and the John Durkan (50k). Possible neither will come over and Douvan will go Hilly Way and UDS the John Durkan, maybe they are worried about the possibility of snow.

Someone is keen to lay Douvan but very few takers. Could it be the same person who is queueing up to back Fox Norton? If so, very likely too that someone is doing so with inside info.

You own decent horses that are qualified to run in three different races in a 24 hour period, you don't know for sure where your most likely dangerous opponents are going to turn up or what ground conditions will definitely be, your aim is obviously to try and give your horse the best chance of winning but without bottoming it out on its seasonal debut, so do you
a) come straight out and say horse 1 goes here, horse 2 goes there, end of, and stick to it to appease the public b) leave your options open by not committing either to any individual race until final declaration time, to do what is best for your charges and connections Why anybody feels they are obliged to be told anything concrete is beyond me, playing before race day has always been fraught with danger, why should it be any different now, irrespective of the connections involved. |

Cork Langer, with due respect if the connections had said zilch I'd have understood. However, connections were categoric, and contradictory; this was backed-up with glowing work report and well-being of both. To be perfectly honest I'd not expected Douvan to run here irrespective of the assertion of his trainer. But I do expect UDS to turn up to defend his triumph of last year - the ground is to his liking and similar to last year ie good to soft.

They have a track record of doing so according to all sources on here , it is not as though this was the first occasion, so why the surprise that they should and will no doubt do so again, the punter is of no interest whatsoever to either owner or trainer, the person to get any sound information from either source is the guy you are tempted to bet with at an inflated price, always been that way, like everything that involves finance, there are people that are pandered to and looked after and then there are those that receive nothing.

I fully concur with your reasoning. I did not and would not back Douvan with free money, but to withdraw UDS the defending champion to run in the Group2 Hilly Way Chase on similar ground and over the same distance on sunday at Cork is bordering on the realm of utmost absurdity only the proponents of such action can justify. If UDS is not sound, scratch him, period. Hilly Way Chase,...the mother and father of absurdity by Mr Mullins, I'd have thought.

The situation with UDS is misdirection plain and simple. Why come out a couple of weeks ago and give UDS a glowing report and state is intended for the Tingle Creek (G1 85k) and then actually go for the Hilly Way (G2 35k)?
Agree this is not the first occasion and Mullins now in the not to be trusted bin. He would be better off giving little or no information like Henderson. |
