Does anyone know why people still trade on horse that has been withdrawn just before the off.

Not just the bots, There are a few unsporting types who back said withdrawn horse right in so that the bots push out the odds of other horses.
I'm informed that they do this for amusement only and wouldn't take advantage of a confused bot for English £munney  |

In the US I've seen horses go to 1.10 from 4.0 after they have been withdrawn. I'm fairly certain it is a quite useless attempt to cheat as it doesn't appear to affect the reduction factor which is presumably what they are trying to do.
I agree in GB some of it must be bots. |

I always thought it would be an easy way to mess up the bots, especially when they haven't got time to form a new market. Back a withdrawn horse into 1.01 and mess up the over-round.

In the US Bf don't always twig that a horse has been withdrawn for some time. Those of us who are watching ATR/LV/some other stream DO know and that is when there is an attempt to rig the reduction factor,and perhaps to confuse the bots though I'm not convinced about that. I don't do it myself,partly because I realised it didn't work and partly because I heard a rumour that somebody had received a stiff warning from Bf. When the market IS reformed,if there is time for it to settle,there are generally no signs of unusual betting patterns. All this is easier to spot in US racing than in GB because the liquidity is way lower of course.

Back a withdrawn horse into 1.01 and mess up the over-round
i think that's the whole idea of it. plus , when a horse is withdrawn so close to the off, i think betfair turn of the crossmatcher |

In GB don't Bf form a new market too quickly for that to happen ?
As I've said I've seen it done in the US but that's because they don't watch it as closely as I thought they did in GB racing. |

Salmon ,as an example , in flat races when a horse doesn't go into the stalls, there is no time for betfair to withdraw a horse and form a new market , so they leave the horse there, but just switch the cross matcher off ( i think )
this is where the backing off the non-runner comes into play |
