Is there a Lester’s for the worst ride of the year because if there was, then the brainless imbecile should be getting a new tuxedo

looked iffy

It wasn’t iffy in the slightest. The chap that rode the second  hasn’t the brain of an amoeba. There was one danger to it, he let it off 6 to 8 lengths in front , and watched as it pinged hurdles. When his brain cell finally clicked into gear, he closed up before the home turn , but as soon as he did , he decided to take things easy , as he fancied playing jockeys.
It was a ride that sums the guy up perfectly, and is exactly why he’s persona non grata when it comes to riding for Alan King when it comes to the festival.

Mistake down the back put him on the back foot. Very costly when you're sitting a few lengths further back than ideal.

When you are sitting a few lengths further back than ideal , being the key sentence.
To not allow for that eventuality sums up the ride in a nutshell.

just appalling and not only that it looks so bad, it looks dishonest, but just stupid I am sure.

I’ve backed it and I am 100% certain it wasn’t in any way dishonest. I just think that Hutchinson is looking ahead and saying to himself , that’s only David Noonan. He may have not been so lackadaisical if Ruby Walsh was riding the leader . I never mind if you bet a jockey and he throws it away , if you were well aware before the race, that he is a moderate performer. But it’s the knobbs that think they are better than they are and don’t keep things simple , they are the ones who grate
Look at the jockeys who acted the maggot over the years riding, they finished up with not a lot to show for their efforts.
Paul Carberry Nick Scholfield Jamie Spencer Shane Foley are just a few that massively underachieved and  Willy Lee is the next to join them

The market spoke for it and it was wanted alright . The jockey threw it away and Alan King will be fully aware of that too.
I’d say the fool wouldn’t be allowed smile at Yanworth, never mind ride him.

Ah but will be told he is great around the yard and he is good to come in for schooling days or some tosh like that. Its like the  owners who fork out big money for a young horse and a leading trainer tells you its gonna be ridden by her daughter Katie in a bumper. If punters are getting rolled by these sub standard riders spare a thought for the poor guy paying the bills.

don't get these jocks cobbden the same earlier, they don't want to set the pace,be alone on front etc,but when you sit 6 of the pace in these small fields ,you might as well be in front, you,ve no cover and ground to make up off in most cases no gallop

Cobden needed a second  go to get it right on Tommy Silver, a top jockey wouldn’t need a second chance . Noel Fehilly would have won 20 lengths on that in Worcester. Therein lies the difference between winning and losing, and Nicholls can now draw on sub standard riders and rubbish horses. He made some blunder getting rid of Daryl Jacob, he hasn’t have developed since he left that bumm outfit.

^ I was fortunate enough to back the winner, but surely someone like H C would be riding to instructions ?

Don't believe PCN would tell him to do his own thing ?...

All the more reason it is a bumm outfit these days. There would be no instructions if R Walsh was still riding for him. It would be out and gone, and there’s no way he’d have been intimidated by Fehilly.
As jockeys go , Cobden is ok , that’s all. Look at the young jockeys the bigger forces are able to use, jack Kennedy, mark walsh , James Bowen and Paul Townend, and each and every one of them would have Cobden for breakfast.

The fav is no world heater and I thought the jockey rode a great race on winner ! These youngsters never find it easy to beat the 5 and 6 year olds ! Just not strengthened up fully, that said jockey gave the fav a poor ride ! Better jockey won today !

Fair play Jimeen, you mentioned the right riders that drive punters mad, with their overconfident riding skills behind a sedate gallop where they can do the exact same riding closer to the gallop. Yes, it looks great when the move from last to first but overall the % is that they mess up more times.

How many riders today are so lucky having good rides for big trainers.... J.M.McG, W.H,T.H, are three off the top of my head...

Painful to watch , especially given some of the rides when he was third then second choice for the stable.

I didn't see that ride but King's record in the last 14 days is just one win (Elgin) and 7 beaten favourites. It might be a stable issue. The media keep telling us he is blinding form but 7 bf is a sure sign that the horses are not 100%.

If you didn’t see the ride then you cannot make a comment in all fairness. The notion that his horses are running poorly is absolute tripe. Some of his favs including Yanworth fell and the rest bar one , were all placed . All these placed horses were ridden by sub standard riders, and that’s possibly why he’s not banging in winners .
With the jockeys that King uses , he won’t ever win a race he shouldn’t but he may on average  lose up to one a week that he should .

Doesn't seem so long ago that Hutchinson rode fine races to win the Old Roan and the Greatwood. A particularly fine ride in the former.

I'd agree that Passing Call was not his finest moment but some of the above is well out of order.

A thoroughly dependable jockey - not one of them is immune from making mistakes.

Yesterday the winner jumped far slicker than the fav. Hutchinson was within a couple of lengths throughout the last mile but was losing a half length at every hurdle. The best mare on the day won in my opinion down to superior jumping.

Hutchinson's ride on Elgin in the Greatwood on Sunday was class

Cyclops, the difference between the top jockeys and the journeyman rider is their ability to get it done when they are in the expected corner. Plenty of jockeys ride winners when they are under no pressure, but when the full glare is on them , then they aren’t so comfortable.
The two rides you mention are in competitive races and his horses are double figure odds , so expectations aren’t high.
He’s not so clever when he has to get the job done , in fact he has been beaten on all of the last 5 favs that he rode, and some by narrow margins.

First time visor, I was expecting ima mazed to be the first clown to come on and say that the best horse won, but maybe he is indisposed at the moment. Anyway , you get the honours this time.
The best mare most certainly did not win and anyone who thinks otherwise isn’t worth even engaging with. Secondly he was not within 2 lengths for the final mile. Did you watch the race at all ?

So you're saying he can win one of the most competitive handicaps of the season at Cheltenham,on a horse very well backed (16s to 10s) but he lacks the bottle for a mare's novice hurdle on a Tuesday in Southwell.
By:
jimeen
When: 22 Nov 17 11:11
I never said he lacked bottle , where did I say that ?
He lost this particular race because of  misguided over confidence and stupidity, and by not reacting quick enough when the race was starting to slip away. It did not have a lot in hand , very little in fact , but it had enough to have won.
Riding winners in these big stupid handicaps is no guide to a jockeys ability, I suppose Tom Bellamy is a top jockey now as well. It’s grade 1’s that separates the men from the boys.
By:
firstimevisor
When: 22 Nov 17 11:25
Maybe she could have won, maybe not. When he really asked the mare for max 2 out she didn't close or accelerate. She stayed on well from the last for sure but that doesn't necessarily make her an unlucky loser.I believe the winner deserved it more, you believe otherwise. We'll never know but my opinion is as valid as yours.

And when these jockeys win these big handicaps it shows that when they are on a level playing field there are lots of jockeys capable of getting the job done. They don't all get the same opportunities. There are a very small number of big jobs to go round.
By:

When: 22 Nov 17 12:09
jimeen, I can't have it that there is more pressure riding a favourite in a novice hurdle at Southwell than the Greatwood on, as firstimevisor points out, a well backed horse.

That does not begin to stack up.
By:

When: 22 Nov 17 12:23
The difference is that he has about a 64% chance in one of the races and about 9 % in the other , and them jockeys don’t half ride accordingly.
By:

When: 22 Nov 17 12:43
It isn't so much pressure, but when you are riding a short-priced horse, more oftenthan not the other jockeys act around what the jockey on the short-priced fav does. Its the jock on the short price that will dictate how a race will be ridden through his actions, Noonan saw an advantage there in an injudicious ride by Hutchinson sitting off and pressed it home from the front. Hutchinson dictates the way others will rdie around him by the way he rides.

Very rare that you would see Ruby sitting far off the pace in small field novice hurdles on fancied horses, unless they are going too quick.

Basically in small field races where they don't go as quick, jockeys have to judge the pace better and have more decisions to make.

Those good handicap hurdles, they go quick, so a horse can win from anywhere.

I don't think sitting on the bridal is a very sensible tactic when the ground is tacky , they are not flat horses and more often than not trying to go from crusing to instant pace often knocks the guts out a horse , better cajoling them along during these rather that going for one killer finish not easy !sling up ground when you have a grinder to pass , over the winner but the best jockey won that race not the best horse ,
