Is this a serious piece of race reading??.   ~"Kept him at the back" - He was far further back than either he wanted to be or needed to be.

Watched plenty racing and know a horror ride when see one, that was one. Horse certainly first three if not close to winning, huge ground made up with zero assistance from that little clown...

Perhaps masar's performance just shows what an awesome display it was that arazi won, hard to pass so many horses around a tight turning track, and you have to be an incredibly athletic individual to go through horses like that like a knife through butter.

FYI - I bet James Garfield quite heavily.   Actually I bet very little off course and I do not believe I have ever allowed any losing bet to influence any race-reading comments I have made on here. Hth

My bet did not influence my race reading as you call it, was a woefully inept ride...
Even after checked he offered nothing,horse ran on entirely without assistance and finished a close sixth, having been given no chance whatsoever.

Buick has been incredibly lucky in his career, I get the impression he has the gift of the gab.

Been on my to avoid list for a long time.

I believe you are missing a very important point here...ie when the horse was checked, buick lost his left iron, which would explain the lack of assistance from the pilot...he was riding with only one iron and therefore pretty much powerless. The horse was unlucky, which is not to say he should have won, but just one of those unfortunate things that happens.

If you think bin Suroor decides which jockeys Godolphin uses, you are ridiculously ill-informed. For obvious reasons, no jockey is "absolutely flawless" but I believe that Buick did little wrong on the ride this evening.

Not sure what point you are making here relative to this race but, I think I agree.

Lewisham - because each of the UAE owner groups, whether Dubai (Godolphin/Shadwell), Qatar etc are Owner-driven mini industries that select and fire trainers and jockeys.

For Godolphin - the "Organisation" chooses trainers and jockeys.  FFS - If you think SbS was in a position to decide jockeys, WTF would he be complaining that he was not getting his fair share of 2yo's from the "organisation". Godolphin jockeys are decided by head office not individual trainers.

For Shadwell - Which of Sheikh Hamdan's trainers gets to decide which of the horses are ridden by which jockey. "Head office" decides which are to be ridden by Jim Crowley, and which are to be ridden by Dane O'Neill. There is a bit of trainer freedom after that!!

Blackburn, as you're the forum's leading authority on all things Shadwell, I have a question for you. In Claude's 'famous' piece forewarning that Hanagan was about to get the tin tack, one of the rides cited by the 'impeccable source' was on a heavily backed Varian-trained debutant at Chelmsford.

From the outside looking in, it appeared a nice introduction on a green looking debutant, however, someone clearly wasn't happy, and the money for the horse suggested it was 'expected'.

So who did their conkers (allegedly) and was so angry (allegedly) that it was cited as one of the rides that cost 'Hanagan the Managan' his job!?

he's inconsistent and makes mistakes but can come up with some superb rides at times, definitely a talented jockey in my opinion. Maybe not good for your nerves or your wallet at times though

Yes but the same can be said for any number of jockeys the world over. They can all look great and they can all look rubbish within an hour, depending on what kind of luck they have.Looking at the first page on this forum there are jockeys getting slated and praised all over the place,and its so often the very same jockeys(moore and buick's turn now). Whether its UK, Ireland, France,US tonight,or Australia next week,it'll be the same story.
Useless today - world class tomorrow. There's really nothing between quite a lot of them.Calling any senior jockey the best or the worst is pure guesswork.

check out his strike rate and level stakes in the last 12 months, he's a decent jockey

I thought Tudhope gave Suedois a text book ride; the horse wasn't quite good enough but the jockey had it in a perfect position for the most part - no fannying about but kept it simple

Same with Seamie Heffernan who gave his horse a decent ride & to me it says that there is often little difference between what is considered a good or bad ride & often it is determined by luck in the race with pace, draw etc - more so on tight turning tracks such as Del Mar
