The books are killing horse race punting. No Early Prices. AP dead in the water why they pay to advertise ridiculous prices on the Markets feature in the Post is beyond me surely no one is tempted. The liquidity on here is extremely poor. The markets are strangled from early doors. The books who offer BOG go very safe indeed with the price. At the races every book offers the same under the odds price. The SPs are strangled on big days. Most of us cant bet on-line and the shops monitor anybody who has an idea. They also monitor for newbies and mugs. My betting since Jan has declined by over 50% and I'm a very modest punter there will be thousands like me which has a knock on effect to the sport.
one would have to wonder why they are restricting so much? they know that fbots are on the way out in their current form so they will have to get revenue streams from somewhere?..i got a tip yest eve for a horse. was 13/2 with pp.i tried 150 ew was offered 10 win.as their shops dont lay prices the day before anymore i had no way of betting it..bf sportsbook(only other one going 13/2) offered me 3.23(yes!) it was 5s elsewhere.i ended up not betting it.now it may or may not win but..they didnt get my 300 to add to the betting turnover .. they refused the bet effectively. the bean ounters must know the consequences long term..shrinking turnover .the game will erode and die eventually.

The people on here who refuse to see corruption as it suits their laying will soon have no money to win. Maybe then they'll eventually see why people are betting on football instead.

yes ronnie.and i agree with you.but they are refusing the money over the years leading to people not bothering? if they took all they were offered(i know and accept about having to refuse certain people etc) it would be 35k otc by now?

The Horse Racing Punter is being driven away in this now totally Bookie Driven Industry. I used to bet nearly every day. Now I hardly ever watch or punt.

it's people like this destroying prices overnight for owners and daily punters and then these punters wonder why the owner pulls it when its 4/1 on the day
when are people like this going to realize that overnight pricing is just for bookmakers to put the feelers out to see who is fancied, they have no wish to take any turnover the night before and not being funny but what bookmaker wants his pants pulled down the night before, when he can just take no wagers and adjust his book accordingly to people like this

The lambs that bleated "the pc is necessary to bring more fish to the pond" have a lot to answer for,and what a lot of them they were. The exchange is in intensive care,no market makers can operate. The books have no threat now as to 5-10 years or so ago, they can do what they want as yet again it is just between them.

harry im well aware of what you say as a former owner myself.but i was assured that it was ok to back it. and why would anyone be pulling down any pants? they priced the race so obviously the offer is there.the problem is they wont take a bet, the prices are set to a huge advantage in favour of the books anyway? and who are "daily punters"? code for mugs or slow learners? you seem to think we should be in a state of bookmaker utopia, for example betting 4/5 each of 2 on the toss of a coin?

kavvie i can't get a bet myself so understand all that is being said...one thing i do know though, is the owners i do know, do know they can't possibly bet a horse the night before and hope to be accommodated without either not getting on or the price being slashed... the same problem exists for most punters who if they were accommodated the night before and beat sp will soon not be accommodated at all in future
anyway it's a horrible game and in all fairness it is almost pointless trying to bet at the game unless you want to just bet sp on the exchange but if you want to beat the book it is very difficult indeed

No, ideally 16 hours when prices first out, own tissue price vs compiler would be carlbergesque, not greedy though, qoute your numbers re markets but please don't try and make out they are real people having real bets.

Sparrow I want overinflated prices the night before just like we used to get back in the good ol days
just for the slow learners here of which there are plenty.... we now have access to a host of information, video replays, multiple exchanges and bookmakers the trade off for this is you can't have the juicy fackin prices pulling bookies pants down the night before like you used to get in the dark ages
the games changed, you're getting eaten son

in the dark ages bookies had trainers and jockeys in their pocket, and robbed the gullible punter.(not saying they dont have still but maybe to a lesser extent) .the game is more transparent now for sure but im sure every race is still priced up heavily in the bookies favour. "juicy prices?!?" bookies dont do juicy prices .they price up a race in their favour.if they take a bet on something they drop their prices .thats how it works isnt it? same as its always been.but now they wont take the bet but drop the price.totally unfair in anyones language?

You only need go back 30 years and there was no internet betting, no exchanges, the bookies were betting to massive overrounds compared to today. But the biggest issue was the tax paid on bets of 10%, or in Ireland it was 20%, paid on.That's 20 feckin per cent. The on course bookies took bigger bets then, but why wouldn't they - punters were getting fleeced and had no long term chance of beating the system. There were literally only a hand full of pro punters and not many survived more than a few years at the game.Nobody, even the very very clever ones, felt they had a right to make a living from punting.
These days, every second person on the dole now calls himself a professional punter. No tax, 2 dedicated racing channels, no need to pour through form books - its all available at the touch of a button.Internet betting. Exchanges- the option to lay as well as back.Morning prices on all races. Guaranteed priced on all races.Smaller SP margins. Guaranteed prices on multiples. Double results. Full odds on dead heats. Money-back seconds. Extra place races.48 hour decs. No jockey switching.Betting shops open Sundays and now every night.Etc Etc.And,just in case I forgot, NO TAX!
And still we complain. Racing is fcuked. Punters are leaving in their droves. The punter is getting screwed. Yeah right.
Making a living from betting was never meant to be easy, that's why there are bookies. But if you find this game too hard now then you can console yourself that you wouldn't have lasted a fortnight in any other era.One thing for certain is this...Not saying its an easy game but the punter has never, ever, had it so good as it is now.
