Sunday Roast teas are the south east equivalent of cream teas in the south west, north west has mash spud barms on a Sunday and probably something from Iceland for the North East

you can tell the middles class knobs on here,of the billions of kids who,ve ever went to school I bet you not one has ever said I,m going home for dinner now

of all the modern day traits ,the one I don't get is people using takeaways on a sunday,it was only35/40 yrs ago that chip shops etc didn't open at all on a sunday,

nor bookies, nor retail shops and pubs closed at 2pm and 10.30pm to allow one family orientated meal a week and ensure workers could get their heads down for work on Monday

probably more 'roasts' served up in pubs on a Sunday than in peoples homes nowadays. On the home front a roast is seen as too much effort for many younger types with kids so they rustle up something with chips or just drag the brats down to Maccy D's

I actualy saw a traditional fish and chip open near me at 11.30 on s sunday lunch time ,couldn't believe my eyes,thought I was at Whitby or scarbrough

Originally 2pm untill about late eighties then extended to 3pm

when I was kid in 70s and did bit of glass collecting sunday was 12-2 with 15 mins drinking up in the lounge and extra 15 mins on the bar to 2.15 in the bar, Night session was 7-10.30 and drink up by 10.45

why the bar had extended bar time I have no idea as they would be the blokes throwing it down the, the Lounge was quieter with bit of decoration or couples.

Back in the sixties there were variances in opening times.

Early morning hours where over night markets operated e.g. Smithfields , no afternoon closing in market towns on market day , there was a half hour in closing  difference 10.30 pm in kent against 11pm in Greater London

ph , they probably extended it to 12-3 at some point after you were working in a pub

until 82 in the mids Sunday was 2pm in Lounge and Landlord had option to 2.15 in bar. Don't think 3pm Sundays came in in Cov until about mid 80s, defo not before. I think as a kid we had Star Soccer with Hugh Johns 1.30-2.30 as ITVs equivalent of MoTD but with regional games only.

FTP I drink with guy from Yarm (lives there but grew up on biggest council estate in Boro) who works down here with his blokes and there are loads of Boro throughout London. Another fella here doesn't sound very Boro but his old man had the night clubs up there in 60s and 70s

it was chubby browns early days just before he hit the big time nationaly,and lots of the local hardmen,rouges used to sit near the front and chubby used to give them some horrendous stick

had several great nights with Boro lads, tend to be mid 40s to mid 50s but good set of lads

it was a certain boro,grangetown lad working on the door of a London club who give john terry what for when jt was giving it large in his early days,

am only 50, was listening to Chubby tapes and bootlegs in 82-83 so know idea what Boro was like then. Know it fairly well now and can state here and now Stockton is like Beirut day in day out in the town centre and the even opened a Poundland pub there a few years back. Apparently lots of micro brewery stuff going on in Boro and place is starting to pick up again. Unlike Cov where the pub and Club scene seems to have been visited by German bombers all over again. Don't know that we have a night club in Cov anymore. Several late drinks but not a venue to dance and party.

yeh couple of streets in mddlesbrough centre ironicaly up from the law courts have gone up market micro pubs ,bars eateries etc, they also took an idea idea from London and ran an orange pip market where the shops spilled onto the street along with invited vendors,which proved that popular its moved to a bigger market square

id say you spend more time in the former than the latter ph

Chavman, I'm Highgate based nowadays, Cov is a ghost town but the younger generation are different and don't need the clubs and just pop over to Brum to go clubbing. There just is no work worth having, the average wage is about £20k, too much temping and zero hours work. There is till passion and a yearning for some collective solidarity (52,000 to Wembley recently) and many have got behind the Wasps. The social side has died a death, the WMCs dying like many of the boozers with whole communities ie Henley Green , Wood End and Potters Green not having a Public House the length of Henley Rd and Woodway Lane around 8 square miles)

yeah CO1 is George Hendrys, lives up Kenilworth Rd, used to be behind Park Lanes, Ritzy, Cinderella Rockerfellers and 42ND St. Old Scotch guy prob mid 70s now

he was never THE big cheese, he didn't get involved in all the villainy as such,the city has never been run by one man or one family. Too many manors, all possessive of their own turf and no firm big enough to rule or unite the manors. It always was a rough old place and it still is, for a big city there just isn't any dough there.

don't worry I couldn't buy one here, I'm renting for now but its a nice chilled place and really is a village in the midst of the smoke. Its full of terribly terribly nice people, even the dogs are mates and friendly with one another, they seem to know not to rock the boat whether in Waterlow Park or Parliament Hill Fields running around off their leads, so they sniff and play contentedly while their owners chat away amicably.
