What an absolute fanny this bloke is.

“I don’t approve of free bets or bonus offers. From a gambling perspective I think it’s an unfair inducement to gamble,” Banks said. “But to open any new accounts these days you have to offer these inducements."

No you don't, Geoff.  You could just offer decent prices and not limit people to peanuts after two bets.  If you're so against offering the incentives, just stop.  Nobody's forcing you.

What baffled me is why people pay for the 'matching' - like scrabbling around on the bookies floor for pennies with a hole in your pocket.

"no you dont geoff" you could just offer decent prices and NOT LIMIT PEOPLE TO PEANUTS AFTER TWO BETS"

exactly what the **** did on my account after 2, despite clearly stating on the front page of his website at the time

"you wont find geoff placing silly restrictions on your account after a couple of winners"

patronizing little pr1ck

What he's got the hump about is people taking up his free bet offer and then backing with him and laying the same selection on here to lock in a guaranteed profit regardless, totally ignoring the fact that the bets could lose with him and make him money, despite ensuring the punter makes a profit if they win on here. He just seems upset by the fact that the punter wins regardless.

And like he's never layed off a bet in his life either, whether that be with another bookie or on here.

It won't, as he has to have it back on here/elsewhere at a loss if people are arbing him, plus it costs him the value of the free bets too.  It's not like he's going to take an opinion and actually stand a bet, is it?!

True sparrow.

What I mean though Rob_The_Bantam is if a punter backs with Geoff Banks and lays on here and the horse is beaten, if Banks just stands the bet and doesn't lay it on here himself too, then both the punter and he will make money regardless.

Yes of course there will be times when the horse wins but most matched betting punters use higher odds on the free bet to increase the profit on it, seeing as they won't get the stake returned on it if they are using free bet stake money and not their own. So by using higher odds, it's more likely the horse will be beaten and so Banks makes a profit, bearing in mind the punter usually has to use their own money on a bet first, in order to release the free bet stake and it's that initial bet from the punter that can lose and make Banks money.

Masquerades as wanting the best for racing, but that only seems to apply when it is also in his personal best interests.

I don't mind him and anyone who can upset the fawning and dares to challenge, the seemingly untouchable Walsh/Mullins/Ricci, is ok by me.

But please, just be honest and say, I am in this for me and me only. (like most people in racing)

Yes, I understand what you're saying and in principle you're right.  This relies on Banks actually standing a bet based on opinion and not just doing what the machine tells him to, so zero prospect of it happening sadly.

The bloke is a coward.  Bleats on about these things being bad for racing etc etc, but he's like all other bookies and only wants complete mugs betting with him who are price insensitive.  Equine has it bang on - he'd get much more respect if he was honest and said that his motives were purely selfish and that anyone with half a clue isn't welcome.

What amazes me is how he gets customers - what exactly does each of these old-school style online betting sites offer over all the other sites that are spawned around the internet? Is there some kind of USP for his site? To be fair, I often ask myself the same question for bigger sportsbook operators too though. Amazed they don't eat each other alive with the competition.

He probably offers nothing that can be deemed a USP stu but he does still have offer customers a free bet sign up offer like the rest do, so that's more than likely what encourages many of his customers to open an account with him in the first place.
