Not great, winner was already running 50 yards before the start and no one wanted to go on,rest were asleep.
Evens out to 7/4 Clondaw. The Mullins other one ridden by Luke's son never attempted to pass any of the 1000 chances. Meanwhile, the winner is 11/4 into 2/1 and Ancient Sands was 9/2 into 7/2.....No financial interest here, but SURELY the stewards must have a look at these races? The first thing they should do is think about "Schooling in public" for Alechi Inois?
Backed the winner and did the R/F.
Saw nothing wrong with it, except I couldn't believe my luck.
Saw nothing wrong with it, except I couldn't believe my luck.
Wasn't paying full attention. Going to rewind back and have another watch of Alechi. The start alone should be enquired into. One horse having a running start whilst the rest are stood still!
Winner was matched at 1000/1 on the off for just over a tenner
Stinks! Winner smashed up as if it was all part of the plan.
The "ride" on Alechi Inois defies belief. Plus,i believe Ruby's wife is a shareholder in Clondaw?
No wonder it didn't catch my eye given how far he detached the horse. That is not acceptable on any level.
Another similar scenario coming up in the next race at Killarney. Special Ted drifting Likes its lost a leg. Another Stink Job!
Barton Bank, correct. This horse led the X-Country at Cheltenham till about the 3rd last, and was then 25/1 for the Grand National(ridden by R.Walsh). It couldn't(or never attempted) to pass selling platers today.
Reminded me of this:
https://www.racingpost.com/results/39/newton-abbot/1989-09-08/31109
Sakr dug his heels in, refusing to line up, then suddenly charged the tape as if stung by a bee. The starter panicked, pressed the button and Sakr jumped the first flight half a furlong clear. He was still half a furlong clear at the line. Cue much red-faced arm waving from connections of the Pipe/Scudamore second as they returned to unsaddle.
What made it really funny was Sakr doing exactly the same thing to exactly the same Pipe/Scudamore horse a month later at Taunton:
https://www.racingpost.com/results/73/taunton/1989-09-28/31274
Reluctant to start, led, soon clear, held on well under pressure from 2 out

Mat you must be quite dim to think the pennies being matched on Special Ted would be enough to pay for a fixed result
Can racecourses not employ someone for £8/hr to sit on their arse and keep people informed via twitter?
"They" will be "seething" if they don't get paid.
Think with Special Ted,J O' B would have some line on Mullins one from last time(maybe think this is as good), not saying Joe is backing his but could be just that simple,no bet by the way.
void race, stewards done the right thing for a change
Think that is very harsh, not the winners fault he was led in and only two others showed some bit of awareness, rough on anyone who did the winner.
so whats the cut off point for a void race that got a 50 yd start, see loads of races where horses get 10 yd starts .
Why was the horse led in anyway seeing as it's never given a problem before
Considering races have been voided when one stall opens fractionally early it doesn't seem an unreasonable decision to void the race. But it does demonstrate the lack of consistency within the sport.
Carrot, I haven't seen the race myself but seemingly the horse lost a lost of ground at Wexford two runs ago.
Yes and they didn't void that one.
Only if they win rather than lose all chance.
Only if they win rather than lose all chance.
Just been back and watched the race at Wexford. Stars Over the Sea was playing up due to temperament but the starter still shouldn't have let them go while the horse was so far behind the rest of the field.
Jumps racing is a professional sport,BB,but run by Amateurs.
The Stewards are usually quite vicious in meting out punishment, both financial and suspensions, to jockey and trainer transgressors, I wonder what fate awaits one of their own, the Starter, my guess, a large brandy and port after the last race!
Perhaps they'll blame the Flagman and withhold his 50 quid! It's happened before!
Barton just looked at the Wexford race and the horse was lined up 100 yards behind the others when the race was started so it really didn't lose any ground
85G Rentokil Initial (QR) Race
The Stewards enquired into the starting procedures for this race involving Stars Over The Sea (USA), ridden by Mr D. Roche, placed first, Ancient Sands, ridden by Mr D. O'Connor, placed second, Clondaw Warrior, ridden by Mr P.W. Mullins, placed third, Illusive Force, ridden by Mr H.P. Cleary, unplaced, Alelchi Inois (FR), ridden by Mr A. McMahon, unplaced, Go Be A Hero, ridden by Miss S. Ahern, placed fifth, The Golden Punto, ridden by Mr N.F. Houlihan, placed fourth and The Shepherd King, ridden by Mr L. Bleahen, unplaced, where it appeared that correct starting procedures may have been breached. Evidence was heard from J.R. Banahan, Turf Club Starter and from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the start and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that a fair start had not been effected and using their powers in accordance with the provisions of Rule 10 they declared the race void. The Stewards referred the matter to the Turf Club for further investigation.

The Starter’s decision as to the fairness of a start shall be final.
In the absence of a signal by a red flag from the Starter the
advance flagman shall lower the white flag when the horses have
started.
Not if the race is in killarney.

Killarney race declared void 20 minutes after it had finished
By David Jennings

A race 'won' by a 7-4 shot at Killarney on Thursday was declared void 20 minutes after it had finished, with the senior stipendiary steward declaring himself "100 per cent happy" with the controversial decision.
Peter Matthews, who was an acting steward at the course, said officials were right to deem that winner Stars Over The Sea had an unfair advantage at the start of the Rentokil Initial (Q.R.) Race.
Stars Over The Sea came home five lengths in front of Ancient Sands and many bookmakers, both on and off course, had already paid out winnings when the race was voided under rule 10.
The six-year-old, trained by Henry de Bromhead, was led in to the tapes and benefited from a significant headstart. He was never headed and won convincingly.
The decision to void the race has cost Paddy Power "well into six figures", while bookmakers at the track were also out of pocket. Paddy Power and Betfair Sportsbook are paying out on the winner and refunding all other bets.
Speaking about the decision, Matthews said: "I am 100 per cent happy with the decision. The stewards deemed it wasn't a fair start, that the winner got a flyer and was a significant distance ahead of most of the runners to the first bend and, under rule 10, declared the race void.
"We had to hear evidence and every jockey bar the winning one said they didn't get a fair start. I would have expected that with a horse like that [Stars Over The Sea], you either withdraw him or send the other runners back with to walk in with the horse. The starter had asked every other runner to stand and wait and they did stand."
He added: "There are rules that starters are supposed to obey as well as the jockeys and that's what we would expect and we didn't think there was a fair start and declared it void.
"The matter now has been referred to the Turf Club."
'A split-second thing'
The starter on duty was Joe Banahan, who did not call a false start. He said: "It was a split-second thing and that horse got away quicker than the others. My job as a starter is try to give everyone a fair chance and that is what I tried to do."
Derek O'Connor, who was on board the runner-up Ancient Sands, said: "Joe [Banahan, starter] was in a tricky situation and he was trying to do his best by every rider.
"It turned out that the Henry de Bromhead horse got an advantage because he was on the blind side and Joe might not have seen him coming forward. It was a split-second decision. There is no winner in a void race and I wish there was another outcome."
Patrick Mullins, third on the hot favourite Clondaw Warrior, agreed it was not an ideal outcome, saying: "It's an unfortunate scenario. I have huge sympathy for Joe. He's a very good starter, one of the best. It happens. We all makes mistakes."
Thomas Cummins, who sent out The Golden Punto to take fourth and Go Be A Hero, was furious with the decision to void the race. He made the trip from Waterford and his horses would have picked up €975 in prize-money but instead was left out of pocket.
"It is a nightmare for me," Cummins said. "My two horses finished fourth and fifth and I should have got the best part of a thousand euro but now I get nothing? I drove all the way here. And I have to pay my jockeys as well. It's not good enough."
Bookmakers on and off the track were hit hard too. Paul Binfield, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: "We've paid out well into six figures on the race. We had already settled the winner before it was announced void and then we continued to pay out on Stars Over The Sea as it would have been cruel for punters who backed him not to collect. He was the best horse in the race and they deserved their money."
Long-serving layer
It was a nightmare scenario for on-course bookmakers too and Seamus Mulvaney, one of the longest-serving layers at Killarney, said he had paid out more than €1,200 in winnings before the race was declared void.
To make matters worse, Mulvaney had racegoers picking up dockets off the ground and trying to claim them as their own, as many punters had already thrown away what they believed to be losing bets before the race was declared void.
One young girl arrived with a crumpled up docket asking to be refunded. The docket in question was a €400 wager on Clondaw Warrior. Fortunately, Mulvaney knew the customer in question and had already refunded him without the docket.
"It's an absolute nightmare," said Mulvaney. "Sure I'm here trying to remember faces and who put bets on. I've had all sorts of people who have just picked up dockets off the ground wanting to be paid. Some of them I had refunded already. It's hugely frustrating."

Why didn't the Stewards announce an enquiry immediately after the race finished? Problem then solved.
Most on course bookies don't pay out until "winner all right" has been called. In this case, with the controversial start, I find it odd that they would pay out straight away, and if they do pay out early, they know the risk of doing so.
any bookmaker that payed out before the all clear , only have themselves to blame surely.
