Agree. That's definitely soft side. Selective watering LOL

Uttoxeter latest: ground update
The official going is good on the chase course and good, good to firm on the hurdle course. Clerk of the course Charlie Moore said: "It was very, very hot here yesterday but we were not able to water too much as we were forecast anything between 0-20mm of rain overnight. We had no rain in the end, so we've selectively watered this morning to ensure the ground is consistent and balanced. There's a risk of showers later this afternoon with temperatures between 22-25C."

selective watering to make sure everything is walking at the end of their races

and still calling it good ground

great idea that
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 2:39 PM BST
you'd think racing through the winter they'd be glad of not having the soft around there during the summer but it seems not today
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 2:40 PM BST
then they'll whinge when its heavy in december, laughable
Report Rider July 19, 2017 2:44 PM BST
if far from soft there looking at the time of the first race
Report flatcap July 19, 2017 2:46 PM BST
If a clerk of the course told you it is Thursday tomorrow, You would have to check the calendar to make sure.

confirming your own flawed logic??
Report Rider July 19, 2017 2:57 PM BST
you clearly dont understand times as well
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 2:59 PM BST
I understand them better than you that's for sure

final times are a product of the ground yes but also they are a product of the grade of horse in the race, weights carried, how the race is run (evenly v unevenly) which you need sectionals to do properly etc etc

you seem to think that looking a time leads you to a conclusion what the ground is

like what you were doing at worcester the other day (incorrectly again)
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 3:00 PM BST
look at a final time 1 dimensionally like you are and you will come to wrong conclusions hth
Report Rider July 19, 2017 3:02 PM BST
so what is your time correction for the extra 66 yards in the first race?
Report Rider July 19, 2017 3:08 PM BST
like what you were doing at worcester the other day (incorrectly again)

official going was changed during racing
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 3:18 PM BST
it remained good ground through the whole card, yes g, g/f places to start and g, g/s places after 1 for remainder of card

I'm not digging this argument up again, worcester is a totally different track to uttox and takes water different to what uttox does, usually worcs produce ideal good summer jumping ground and it wasn't overwatered imo, it was in yours, that's fine

and for uttox, you're asking a 1 dimensional question again, what is THE correction to be made for the extra 66 yards, well it depends on the pace of the race, the grade of horse etc etc
it takes a 150 horse less time to cover the 66 yards running the race evenly than it does an 80 horse that has run evenly
I cannot have 1 dimensional time analysis I'm afraid although I suspect you've allocated something in the region of 4-5s??
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 3:18 PM BST
80 horse run *unevenly
Report Rider July 19, 2017 3:44 PM BST
i'm not sure, in this instance, why you are banging on about sectional times, the overall time is only increased by a muddling pace which would only help to back up your view that the ground is soft, is that not obvious wondersobright?

so after taking account of the extra 66 yards added to the first race (a 4 runner maiden hurdle) i'd suggest a time of around 10 seconds outside of standard not to be soft groundGrin
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 4:00 PM BST
I'm just explaining why what you said is bollox, ie horse x did y time ergo its z ground
analysing times is multi variable and some of the information is inaccurate/incomplete
you are better off doing it properly or ignoring times altogether imo, although that is just my opinion

where did I say it was soft??? I said I doubted it was good ground and that I'm surprised why they'd want to have any soft around there in the summer given they race through the winter as well
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 4:02 PM BST
from what I've seen today, its ground that is defo soft side of good, overwatered
Report Rider July 19, 2017 4:21 PM BST
you'd think...they'd be glad of not having the soft around there during the summer but it seems not today

sounds like you were suggesting it was soft to me and thats why everything will be

walking at the end of their races

easy side of good probably fair enough
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 4:24 PM BST
no I wasn't

I consider ground to be a continuum, not its either good or its soft

also I consider summer g/s and winter g/s to be v different things
Report wondersobright July 19, 2017 4:26 PM BST
would you argue with g/s or g/s, good places rider
that's what I think it is tbh having seen most of the card and both tracks
Report peaz July 19, 2017 5:00 PM BST
To water ground and get even going throughout is an impossible task.
All ground takes water differently depending on the inclination of the ground, turf coverage, soil structure, compaction and moisture content. It is quite possible to have a patch of waterlogged ground only a foot or two from a dry compacted area.
