....as stated on ITV Racing.  Is that really true?

It is not literally true. There must be at least one person displeased by the result. Is it broadly true? Perhaps.

A better example of this crass and lazy analysis is the "Irish eyes are smiling" talk at Cheltenham, as if Irish punters are mindless automata who all bet the same way, and yet all somehow having known to ignore the Mullins hotpot and lump on the Gordon Elliot second string.

Politicians and the media are fond of the term "everyone" when telling us about their latest beef. "everyone believes in fairness" etc. I for one was pleased that the Queen had a good winner but I accept that not everyone thinks the same. If there was an election for head of state I would still vote for the Queen every time. No politicians I have ever seen come close.

She has put a lot into racing and deserves any success she has.
Her horses are always well named.
Report parispike May 20, 2017 12:47 PM BST
sageform - everyone in racing is a nice chap, wonderful trainer/jockey, loved by everyone.

So the "everyone will be happy with that" is just another manifestation of that lazy, trite journalism which is a blight on racing specifically and life generally..........
Report sageform May 20, 2017 12:51 PM BST
The TV presenters never like to be critical of an owner/trainer/jockey in case they win the next race and refuse to be interviewed.
Report parispike May 20, 2017 1:02 PM BST
Why doesn't the same apply in football? Let them refuse - they'll be the ones looking churlish, childish and foolish.
Report sageform May 20, 2017 1:22 PM BST
I don't support their point of view but it explains why they seem so reluctant to tell the truth.
Report parispike May 20, 2017 1:38 PM BST
Explains but not justifies I suggest. Furthermore I would suggest that inherent in that "explanation" is an acceptance that the racing media is generally far too supine, obsequious and cow-towing. Which it is!
Report nicko May 20, 2017 2:15 PM BST
parispike you are correct - but football is the same.
Never critical of established stars unless they are from abroad
have you ever heard a criticism of John Terry, Wayne Rooney from the establishment?

Yes, plenty!
Report sageform May 20, 2017 2:17 PM BST
Is it confined to any sports. When was the last time you heard a cricketer or a tennis player called rubbish by a commentator?

Oldgit is forgetting the parable of the widow's mite. When a filly of mine came second to one of the Queen's in a Chepstow handicap a couple of decades ago, I can assure him that I'd put a damn sight bigger proportion of my cash into that one horse than Her Maj had into her entire string.

The fact that her nag had been stopped before taking the handbrake off for that particular heat didn't help my mood either. I can't recall what it was I said to the Earl of Carnarvon in the unsaddling enclosure afterwards, but according to the bird I was with at the time I "disgraced myself".

It didn't help my mood when 12 months later the same horse ran away with a 50 grand handicap off a 19 lb higher mark, which rather proved my point.
