Great cavalry charge at Ascot which in recent years has gone to horses drawn high, which is where i'm going to pick my selection from, another interesting statistic is that Apprentices have a poor record in this race with just Gary Bartley(3) winning since 2000.
Hopefully this can rule out 10 of the runners!
Going likely to be G/F should suit my horse Hors De Combat who generally runs over 1m but has ran well over 7fs, notably when 2nd to Markaz at Newmarket last june, ran well in Meydan and just touched off by Lincoln winner Oh this is us at Bath last time.
Trainer Dennis Coakley hasn't had many decent horses recently but knows whats needed to win this race having won it in 2014 with Gabriels Lad, hoping for a big run EW 1st 5 at 16/1.

Always split this into three sections because of the draw, can never be overly confident which part of the course is favoured, my three Taurean Star (7), Fastnet Tempest (18) and Hors De Combat (22)

Probably best to do the apprentice numbers from 2009, since there seems to have been a sudden jump in that year, which has been maintained since. Don't know why, maybe the reason isn't hard to find.

The number of claimers riding in the race, starting back from this year, goes 10,9,9,9,6,8,11,7,10,5,3,3,0,4,6,4,3

Overall, 2000-2016 : 97 claimers out of 396 riders. (25%)

2009-2016 : 69 out of 211 (33%)

I hope THE WARRIOR has everything going for him today - high draw, likes a big field and a 7 furlong specialist. BOSSY GUEST might be the one though as looking at the Spring Cup race again it appears that the idea was to give him a gentle run back but he takes off and nearly gets there.

Having followed Zhui Feng time and again very relieved he didn't nick it today. Contrast that ride to the nothing effort Crowley gave him last time.

Tabarrak is obviously a group horse, and an improving one at that.  Money for it too.  Could hose up.
