I cannot ever remember anything remotely approaching the extent of the fraud that was perpetrated on the betting public today in this race. Good luck to the winner, but why oh why was he allowed to go clear and win unchallenged, how many brown paper bags full of cash are being accepted at motorway service stations at this very moment?
This was the worst example I have ever seen of a horse being allowed to win without any of the trailing jockeys attempting to put their mount into contention! Were they all promised a chunky brown envelope?
Please Forumites, replay the 4.30 Hexham race again and marvel at how blatant was the non-trying contingent! Then pack the game in (Racing media excepted of course, they're all celebrating and remaining silent!)
was strange becos i was in the in running room at Hexham today...2 mins before last race my mate got a fone call of his mate who told him sandy thomson really fancied her runner in the last... so..im not sure the race was a stitch up but after the fone call i suppose anything was possible.

the winner could have given them a 30L start and would still have won with its head in its chest, so little surprise the stable fancied it. time will tell but looks a nice horse and by far the best horse in the field, regardless of the poor rides the rest got.

Likes been said elsewhere nobody knows what the outcome would have been if the winner hadn't been given a soft lead but you can certainly make the case that it would have won anyway. WTF were the jockeys on the front two in the betting doing though when the tape went up. They were 10+ lengths behind then the winner kicked on. Absolutely cluless to give such a soft lead in that ground to your only other serious rival. It was as though they were totally unware of where it was and were more concerned with keeping tabs on each other.

in their defence the going was desperate and they were struggling to get home all day, yes they should have been closer and maybe they thought he had gone off to fast. no excuse for letting it go 40 plus lengths clear though.

I, like many others, will have enormous sympathy for this slightly bitter and vaguely twisted loser. It is sometimes hard to take when you get it into your mind that you have been seriously hard done-by. Let us all hope that he soon gets over it.

Just had a look at this and find myself agreeing with the opening poster, this was a shambles,if I'd had a bet in this I would be livid. At Navan recently a similar race was run and this forum went into meltdown, today's winning rider was a 7lb claimer as was the rider of the unplaced fav.In behind were some very experienced jockeys, anyone not questioning the rides these jockeys gave their mounts need to have a good look at themselves imo.

Looked like incompetence to me. The race was a bit of a farce and they gave the winner (who I think would have won without the headstart) too much rope. One good ride and a few bad ones.
