No doubt the stewards won't even question the ride.

Question it and accept the explanation is my guess. They need to take a leaf out of Ireland's book and have more categories of non trier/incompetent rides.

Nothing yet so they might not have even questioned it.

Even the kindest assessemnt of that ride would be that it was "ill judged", surely? Leave it altogether and they are not doing their jobs. But then it was the last race and maybe they have better things to do than watch replays.

This was a pretty blatant piece of 'stopping'.

Held up off the pace (for no apparent reason) and little movement in 7th place well off the pace down the back straight.
Then the jockey (Chapman) really got to work, strangling the horse with one rein (see the horse's head hang to the right in the home straight - it was handing the the left down the back) whilst flailing his whip with the other.
I'd swear he actually took 3 pulls after the last - someone please look again and tell me I'm wrong.

No wonder Jim Best feels hard done by.....this was an 11-8 fav....

The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of BELL WEIR, ridden by Ross Chapman and trained by Kenneth Slack, which was held up in rear before staying on under apparent tender handling to finish second, beaten by 12 lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer who confirmed that a post-race examination, during routine testing, of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities, and observations from the Handicapper. The rider stated his instructions were to drop in and get the gelding travelling and jumping and see how he goes. The trainer confirmed the instructions and was satisfied with the ride given, however having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race, the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race. They suspended him for 10 days as follows: Friday 17 to Sunday 26 February 2017.

I'm surprised the trainer hasn't been done if he was happy with the ride,,, I thought that was the whole point of trainers blaming the jockey?

jock often carries the can in this game even if trainer says the ride was ok, surely both should get penalised in this instance.

He's only had 3 rides in the last 2 weeks so it's not going to cost him much.
