him are winning every 2nd day.

Just seen the news, terrible. Will never forget being at Cheltenham and his attitude, exuberance, and jumping, epitomised why we watch racing.Absolutely brilliant racehorse. Sympathy to all connections, rip.

Hard to believe the setbacks that the Mullins yard has had in the last 6 weeks or so. one year you are winning every significant race in the calendar and the next you are struggling to find anything to run. Not a single Mullins runner at Down Royal yesterday.
Vautour is a very sad loss.

Report Ibrahima Sonko • November 6, 2016 8:00 PM GMT
Certainly would on good ground.

I was already looking forward to seeing him at Cheltenham for the 4th festival in a row, such a shame we dont get to see what he could had achieved.

Such a shame.
Report eastendking • November 6, 2016 8:19 PM GMT
wow, that is shocking news! RIP Vautour. It does really show that you should seize the day as much as possible.

Makes the achievements of horses such as Kauto Star & Frankel even more remarkable.

The Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old won the Supreme Novices' Hurdle in 2014 and the JLT Novices' Chase 12 months later before running out a dominant winner of the Ryanair Chase on his return to Prestbury Park last March.

Mullins said: "It's been a lovely, dry day here and Vautour was out in the paddock with his usual companion Shaneshill.

"One of the girls went out to feed him. There didn't appear to be anything untoward as Shaneshill was grazing away, but Vautour was found to have broken his foreleg.

"He goes out there every day and it's just a freak accident.

"It's tough to take."

Vautour won 10 of his 16 starts overall, including five Grade Ones, and was last seen finishing second at the **** Champion Chase at Punchestown in April.

Sad news Indeed
Report peatysandy • November 6, 2016 9:46 PM GMT
Gutted. Gutted for everyone and gutted for the horse, ludicrously not even given the chance to win a championship race at chelt. If RR was upset after the Ryanair this must be hollowing. Makes that decision to switch last year all the more saddening.

Report granitjack • November 7, 2016 1:16 PM GMT
So sad to hear this news. My favourite horse over the jumps. Sad as well that this class act and fine champion will never get to prove his doubters wrong that he was a genuine Gold Cup horse on suitable ground. Hope Willie starts getting some better luck as well he's had a tough couple of months.
Report loper • November 7, 2016 1:28 PM GMT
Would have ended up as one of the greatest 2 1/2m chasers of all time such was the scope he had. I have no doubt.

His performance in this year's Ryanair was awesome to witness at close quarters.
Report duffy • November 7, 2016 1:49 PM GMT
Desperate stuff, his JLT romp will be replayed a good few times over the coming years in this household. RIP son.
