I am small punter so £250 ......poor attempt at trading and trying to recover in running

just over £6,000,most win £10,150.Nowadays never exceed 3 figures sums either way.
I'm sure it has been more in the past but my current Betfair records only go back some 15 months and the biggest Betfair daily loss in that time was £475.No idea what caused that probably a unsuccessful place lay of outsider which is one of my "tactics".

It didn't hurt back then, it was funded by my local PP, they offer tons of horse match betting,that impossible for their traders to keep tap on- all I had to to do was turn up, scan through all their horse match bets for races hours later, against BF prices, and they always seemed to make a howler or two per day, the type that you get 1/1 that end up 2/7- I had a long run with them for really high stakes with success rate of about 75%
It was like a dream,no form study, no hard work.
But the dream lasted about 4 weeks( very long you'd think) before,SP win only and no special markets were imposed.
That edge is still there to a lesser degree, but can't be bothered traveling ( I'm a nine till five sort of man) and even if I do , as a fresh face they would always call the bet.

Betting never got in the way of happy marriage, she is a highly successful professional but enjoy going racing.
6k is a lot of money but maybe not to an highflyer like you layingisthewayforward

3k here, I deposited another 2k to chase but decided against it when I returning to my computer after going for a dump.

December 2013 I was in West Java visiting my daughter for Xmas and new year. I had 1 bet on the day, £3400 (and a bit of change) on Sprinter Sacre (around the 1.25 mark). Sadly it was the day he suffered a heart murmur and was pulled up 
5 figures on numerous days throughout the course of the year...but it in for the long term so will ride out the bad days..
Numerous losing days cardiff, just seemed like a strange response re did you tell the missus.
For info worst day here was minus 2k. Turned off the laptop and went to the pub thankfully.

This is an obvious answer but I lay what I think are genuine outsiders at the lowest price I can. I don't chase prices as the unlikely does happen quite regularly. It's not a big profit winner but it's just one of the tactics I use to stay ahead in what is just a hobby these days.

4 and half grand double on the darts early rounds at christmas was my biggest bet
No point in mentioning a figure here as I have no proof. Having said that, I was mentally shattered for three weeks.
Lost a few quid in seconds on one game of tennis a few years ago by getting mixed up with the players.Sharapova was playing another 6 foot blonde..easy mistake to make.Went out into the garden with a cuppa,gave myself a good talking to!Got it all back gradually... in 6 weeks.Never chase.

i had been working from home as i was one of a few who had the live feed back then (2006).. in march/april 2007 they encrypted it so had to go to nearest trading shop which was in thornaby..i had won around £180,000 in 9-10 weeks then lost that £147,000 on metal detector...it did hurt but wasnt life changing.

i was 1200 down one day and one of frankie/godolphin s drifted from 1.7 to 2 i laid it to get my 1200 back.i was happyit got into a ball of sweat,got horny, broke last ran as green as hell.touched 570 ir ..but guest what..it still won..not good

I'm similar Duncan, iF I'm happy with the bet (usually lay) then I take the loss on the chin as you know these things are going to happen. If I make a mistake or lose my discipline I can get angry with myself and get tempted to make matters work by chasing!

John Quinn wins a triumph hurdle that was 10k done straight off the bat, complete skinner, probably got away lightly with just the 10.
Was winning untold (close to 6 figs) on the 2nd in the 2nd but was given an ill judged ride and didn't get there - did another 6/7 total in that. Mullins banker gets beat to Lucinda Russell of all trainers in the 3nd (must have been some juice in the northern water on the way down to Prestbury thinking back) that was another 11 or 12 from memory.
Steadied the ship a bit after that and kept the losses down to under 10 for the rest of the remaining 4 races combined knowing that I was on super tilt. Was quite proud of that at the time.
To be fair the first three days were superb for me and I definitely was playing to max stakes with hugely overblown confidence by the Friday but after that day I've not played the festival with that kind of aggression in the four years since.

lost 2k on Argentina v England 2005 though it was'nt on Betfair, backed the Argies and the draw, all was going well until 87th minute with Argies 2-1 up, Michael Owen equalised to make it 2-2 and squeeky bum time, still I have the draw I thought at the time, then Owen went and bagged the winner in injury time......you live and learn, nothing is a cert.
About £1500 on the same day I jacked in my job about 10 years ago. Wasn't the cleverest moves I have ever made.
About a grand on a couple of photo bets. In front on them overall but it's a quick way to lose ( or win )
£17.65 today. maybe not what you mean but I backed Chevalier du lac then panicked and got out for the loss. of course it went on to win.

From memory the 3-3 lay was a few days before and I thought the price was way too low. Not sure on the thinking behind the 1-0 lay. Then, in my infinite wisdom, decided to lay 2-0 and lose 50 large. Think I made the price about 11.5 to 12, but probably went in too heavy and was a bit cocky after winning well on a few matches in the preceding days. Hey ho.
