On the Betfair markets for the 2.40 at Lingfield. They have quite a few of these in the US markets and I thought I had worked out they were non-thoroughbreds. I've looked at Prufrock's pedigree and he looks like a thoroughbred to me. Moreover he is on the thoroughbred database.
Confused

Hadn't thought of that       Crazy

Correct - salmon - re: NON Thoroughbred races in the States.

Perhaps it is because PRUFROCK (forum name) works for Timeform/Betfair.
Report pablo-fanque August 24, 2016 3:36 PM BST
if you pay betfair £50 your horses name will be spelt in capitals
Report prufrock August 25, 2016 12:59 PM BST
^^ I work for my own company (Rowlands Racing & Research Ltd), and Timeform (not Betfair) is just one of several bodies who pay for my services. That's been the case since the day before the Paddy Power/Betfair merger.

No idea why PRUFROCK is spelt in capitals, nor why he is a she, for that matter!

Dont suppose ITV and the new racing channel are going to use your services prufrock,a weekly item on sectional timing would surely go down well.
Report prufrock August 25, 2016 2:48 PM BST
I don't suppose so, but we shall see. Thanks for the implied compliment!

Pfrufrock might be a filly's name because her owners think of her as Pru Frock rather than Prufrock out of TS Eliot.

I hadn't seen that thread Delta. Very odd.
Fairly certain onlooker and I are right about American markets where you somtimes get thoroughbreds against quarter-horses but these in GB are surely thoroughbreds. The ones that aren't over here would be the " selle francais " (?) and I'm sure they don't put them in capitals. Must be Do Wah.
Report onlooker August 25, 2016 4:26 PM BST
Correct, again - salmon

AQPS horses from France = NON-Thoroughbreds do not automatically appear in Capitals.

As regards the USA scenario - I think it may well emanate from the American fields/cards supplier - as the ones that I have noticed have always been for races restricted to NON-Thoroughbreds only.
Report STATSMAN August 25, 2016 4:28 PM BST
It doesn't state on the BHA website that when registering a horse name, capitals can't be used.
Purely a guess but, maybe it was how the name appeared on the registration form.
Report salmon spray August 25, 2016 4:31 PM BST
That could be a very good guess STATS.
Report STATSMAN August 25, 2016 4:36 PM BST
If that is the case, it's strange that there aren't quite a few more though
Report onlooker August 25, 2016 4:39 PM BST
NO - Not having that one.

In that case - It would be in CAPITALS everywhere - sent out by Weatherbys  ... and then on RacingPost site, etc.

Prufrock 2     3/1     LIN     2:40

It IS just the occasional Betfair data input typo... NOTHING else.
Report salmon spray August 25, 2016 4:39 PM BST
There would have been in the old days. Some of us always tend to write in capitals as nobody can read my joined-up writing.
Report salmon spray August 25, 2016 4:40 PM BST
Fair point onlooker.
Sorry STATS. Nice try.
Report STATSMAN August 25, 2016 4:46 PM BST
Sorry, I hadn't realised it was only on Betfair that it was in capitals
