The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of CLASSIC PURSUIT, ridden by Raul Da Silva and trained by Ivan Furtado, which was held up in rear before being asked belatedly for an effort inside the final furlong making rapid ground to finish third, beaten only 2 1/2 lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer who confirmed that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated his instructions were to drop CLASSIC PURSUIT in and get him balanced and come with a late run. He added that the gelding was outpaced early and only made up ground in the latter stages as he considered CLASSIC PURSUIT is better suited by six furlongs. The trainer confirmed the instructions, adding the horse is not a straight forward ride, but he acknowledged Da Silva could have made his effort sooner. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)59.3.2.4 and guilty of a serious misjudgement over the way in which he had ridden the horse. They suspended him for 10 days as follows: Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24, Thursday 25, Friday 26, Saturday 27, Sunday 28, Monday 29, Tuesday 30, Wednesday 31 August and Thursday 1 September 2016.

was a very poor ride, bad judgement or some intent is the age old dilemma, what was also serious misjudgement was kate and niall on ruk who didnt criticise the ride in anyway

what is the point of having pundits if they cannot see (or dont want to see) the obvious?, its likely others would have taken the safe route also

imo the horses should have been banned from running for 30 days ,and hopefully the handicapper will take a dim view of it and raise its handicap mark 3/4 lbs as well.

if it was just misjudgement, very hard to say one way or the other, you cant punish the owners as well.
