Is it just me or does Luke Morris have an extraordinary number of 2nd place finishes

He'd be much better just pushing them. That whip action always seems to make a horse wobble and slow down.
Report Soapy Boaby July 8, 2016 7:43 PM BST
He is really ineffective in a finish as his "hectic" all action style gets out of sync with the horses stride pattern. It is often said within racing, that Luke could cause a steam roller to become unbalanced..............and it's hard to argue with that based upon his poor win rate in finishes of a half length or under !

5.20 York – Franca Florio
She’s down at the right end of the weights for a handicap like this and she’s one of the few horses in the race to have actually won. I think she’s got a real live chance and there’s a good chance the handicapper has let her in a few pounds light.

Boredom set in; backed a few winners but seem to be down on the day.

Assuming I've not made a complete mess of the calculations, which is entirely possible, then Luke Morris really does have one of the lowest win rates in tight finishes over the past few seasons, with a ratio of about .75 (where 1 would mean it was 50/50).

But but but -- by number of wins he comes top.

So is he good because he gets the horses into the frame more than others, or bad because they don't quite win? If his horses were ridden by other jockeys, would they win or finish down the field? And those questions remain valid even if I have ballsed up the arithmetic.

Ramruna   Commonsense prevails!!  Mind you probably best to wait for the sophisticated analysis that lies behind Soapy's yesterdays 19.43 post. He knows, apparently.

I don't post here often but San Michel at Sandown endorses everything about Luke's "hectic" style in a finish...........once again, his horse is unbalanced, running around whereas Doyle outrode Morris to get the result. With regards to sharing Luke's win to loss ration in close finishes, if you want to know, do your own research. Another post states he looked like Paddy Broderick and again that is hard to argue with. He is no doubt energetic in a finish, but effective, I don't think so !

.........and just to endorse the point Tripartite in the last race at Sandown makes it a close finish losing double for Luke. Another horse unbalanced running up a hill.......not every jockey can do that !

it's a god given talent to unbalance a shortpriced fav!
