Placed a bet at 12.30pm in my busy city centre Ladbrokes . It was £150 at 3/1 early price on a horse in the 1.15 at South Africa which was trading in the local market at 6/4 .
I placed the bet and the contract confirmed when we exchanged slip and cash - so you would think .
Within 20 seconds of me walking away from the counter , the shop phone rang . A minute later the assistant shouted to say the bet is now SP( the horse was shortened then to 2/1 ) I refused stating that the contract has been confirmed . He then stated the bet would be void .  I declined and walked out .
The horse finished 4th . I rang customer services and complained about the practise which is disgraceful . The agent informed me the bet had be voided .

How is this allowed to happen ?

Go and get you £150 back then.
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 14, 2016 6:52 PM BST
you were trying to be wide, lucky it got voided
Report easter bunny May 14, 2016 6:57 PM BST
Wide ? How do you work that out . If the odds compilers offer 3/1 and the bet has been struck , what on earth is the problem ?

If someone offered you something on here which was not in line anywhere else - would you not back it ?
Report penzance May 14, 2016 6:59 PM BST
got £150 to come back.
Should've layed you  the 3s.
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 14, 2016 7:04 PM BST
you thought you were being smart backing a horse you knew nothing about because it was 6/4 there and you were getting 3/1, the shrewdies in south africa could have been full bank laying for all you knew, lucky to get your money back imo
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 14, 2016 7:05 PM BST
last 3 winners at newbury, all beaten at Chelmsford recently

Bollox 1yall

So if a bookie makes a rick then it's a palp/the punter's a thief

If a punter makes a rick he's a mug/deserves to lose his cash

It can't work both ways....next time I take a bad price and the horse gets beat I might claim a palp and ask for my money back (good luck etc.)
Report easter bunny May 14, 2016 7:10 PM BST
The point of the story is Ladbrooks should not be moving the goalposts once a bet had been struck . where does it all end ?
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 14, 2016 7:12 PM BST
not saying the punters a thief, just saying he knew nothing about the horse, doesnt even know the name of the track, apparently 1:15 at south africa

so putting 150 on a horse you know nothing about just because its a shorter price in a foreign market, anyones guess how much was in the market to make it 6/4, is trying to be wide imo
Report easter bunny May 14, 2016 7:15 PM BST
Right . If you saw a horse in the UK first time out with a trainer you haven't heard of - would you back it ?
Report dixie May 14, 2016 7:16 PM BST
I had something similar a few weeks ago.

A team was 7/4 on the coupon.  I checked the screen, it was still 7/4.  The same price as in Coral's over the road.

I put on £100 & got a receipt saying returns £275.

I returned to the shop about 10 minutes later and was told that, after a call from head office, I couldn't have the bet.  I could have £25 @ 7/4.

When I reluctantly agreed, I was told that the price had changed to evens.

no

What the **** has that got to do with anything?...do you have to give a 2oo word explanation before you bet?
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 14, 2016 7:19 PM BST
i never said anything about what ladbrokes done, lucky to get his money back imo and should be thankful, its not news that ladbrokes are scum
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 14, 2016 7:21 PM BST
its happened to me in ladbrokes before, put 260 on Lieutenant Colonel in a novice hurdle, went out for a smoke and came back in to be told the bet was void, it got beat
Report easter bunny May 14, 2016 7:22 PM BST
Lucky to get my money back ? What world have happened if the thing had won ?

Would I have been lucky then ?
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 14, 2016 7:23 PM BST
if it won then ud have been justified in starting this thread which will change nothing about how ladbrokes operate, it worked in your favour this time so you should count it as a win

What they are doing is in my book illegal .

If a bet has been correctly placed at the price advertised at that time it is not the punters responsibility to make sure the cashier has rung the trading dept or ask the staff member if the PTL page had been checked .

Never would I agree to any bet being voided and would go straight
to IBAS where it would be 1.01 to settle in my favour .

Surely a bookmaker's credibility/integrity does not swing on the result of the 1:15 from Turffontein?
Report easter bunny May 14, 2016 7:43 PM BST
they seem to be happy laying BOG to shop punters where it is vitually impossible to beat those odds anyway . But it seems when the boot is on the other foot they don't like it .

Do you reckon the next time a horse is trading on here half hour before the off for 6/1 for good money and You have just taken the early bird 3/1 , you think the trading dept will be on the phone offering you more than the 3/1 you have just taken ?

@dixie - It's a shame you agreed to a stake reduction. If you'd contacted me you would have received the full £100.
Report dixie May 14, 2016 8:14 PM BST
Paul - I know my slip is a contract, but there is not a lot of shops were I live & I don't want to get barred from any.

I was able to get £50 on in Corals & and knew it wouldn't take long to make up the shortfall.

I didn't get anything on in Lads @ 7/4
Report Paul Haigh - Total Respect May 14, 2016 8:32 PM BST
Understood.

They have something of a reputation for accepting a bet, then the phone rings and they tell you it has been voided by BAC.

Once you tell them you'll see them in court, they pay up.
Report flukes May 14, 2016 9:36 PM BST
Paul, do you mean Ladbrokes or Corals have a reputation for accepting then voiding.......or both?
Report Paul Haigh - Total Respect May 14, 2016 9:51 PM BST
Ladbrokes.

Not aware of Coral traders cancelling a bet then telling shop staff to inform the customer they've done so after receipt has been issued.

bunny you are correct in everything you say it is nothing less than scandalous anyone trying to say you are being wide clever or whatever are totally wrong the bet should have stood the result was irrelevant in the context of what the point of your post is about    forgive lack of punctuation

Thank you .

If I took 5/2 in Ladbrokes ( without any BOG ) and before I sat down it drifted to 7/2 , what would the cashier say if I went and asked for the 7/2 ?
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 15, 2016 11:13 AM BST
no one has said the bet shouldnt have stood, they make the rules and answer to no one, they have no morals, we all knows thats the way it is and we still play so why moan about it? especially when it works in your favour as it did for the op in this case
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 May 15, 2016 11:16 AM BST
nearly every time I hear something like this, and the only time ive experienced it, its the bookies who have cost themselves money because 9/10 the bets are losers, do not question the forces unseen

Many people on here will always seek to get their bets on with bookmakers. They will tell you that the reason is they would all pay premium charge on here.
