The ironic thing about it is if oncourse bookmakers had these posisions their odds would be no better and probably worse.

I think a deal was done with Brussels that allowed the bald one to operate a Tote as a monopoly for 7 years.
The racecourses can't,therefore, run a Tote so they have these abominations called Chester Bet and Ripon bet etc. I hope that once the seven years are up they and other racecourses will be free to offer proper tote betting and possibly combine into one tote pool that can compete with and eventually put out of business the competition. |

why would anybody want a monopoly in any walk of life ?
By:
the betfred totepool contracts end in 2018.
from then there will be ascot bet , jockey club bet etc etc...and NO tote..which these are all dressed up as the future to look forward to |
By:
So if I go to Chester,Bangor or Ripon can I bet with on-course bookies or do I have to bet with Chesterbet etc ?
By:
You will have to get yourself one of those expensive mobiles, salmon.

theres bookies but just no tote

So who gives better value for the punters out of chesterbet and the tote? S.P -10% or the totes 30 odd percent takeout?
By:
^^^^ none of them gives good value, its a digital age now online or exchanges shop around for best deals, the oncourse mob are fast becoming irrevelent to punters.
By:
Didn't think it was 30% takeout on the win pool, thought it was about half that. You can get value sometimes with a Tote system but never with a Chesterbet system.
A well run Tote with sensible deductions should be beneficial for both racing and punters, particularly those who can't get on with bookmakers. |
