My petition:
Make UK licensed bookmakers accept bets up to a minimum liability of £1000
It has become a common practice for bookmakers within the UK and those that operate in the UK to restrict or close the account of customers and / or to exempt some customers from participating in advertised promotions or enhanced offers. These widespread practises are unfair and discriminate.
Special Terms should continue to be allowed to apply to enhanced offers and advertised promotions which may limit bet size but changes must be made for all customers to be able to participate , without exclusion or discrimination. New South Wales, Australia has recognised these inequities and has legislated to introduced the type of regulation we ask for in this petition.
More than happy to sign it, but it may be worth pointing out that a similar petition was started by somebody else this week, not sure if it's worth just using/spreading that one..? https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/125456

FFS - Neither petition mentions restrictions on shop customers. Although I admire the intent someone who has a clue about the issues and the process of petition needs to take control of this. If by some absolute miracle enough signatures are obtained on either of the current petitions will the government respond to the discrimination and sharp practices rife in shops nationwide or not?

How the mighty have fallen - a new lads account, one bet on cause of causes at Chelt and one bet on one that shortened yesterday (well beat) and today a max £2.18 on a 8/1 shot (available at same price with a few). You are not even allowed to lose anymore, how the hell can they know that the account will be a long term loser to them after 2 bets? It has got so ridiculous now, it's laughable.
As much as I think this will be very hard to get anywhere, I would love to see some serious momentum and maybe someone in the press take it up...

lmfao - apologies, it seems I'm being a doughnut - please could you post a link to the petition brief as I can't find any mention of shop customers where I am looking. Thanks and hope you manage the impossible and get enough signatures.

There is no distinction between shops and online - both are included.
When posting up a petition I found there are strict limitations on the number of letters- this to encourage brevity- and it is not possible to expand the argument/ case being made either in the title of the petition or the 'more details ' section- the idea is - get support in principle and sort out the details in debate at a later stage.
If you can support this please copy/click on the link in the original post- and spread the word :

Had a new sky for Cheltenham and had about 6 bets and at a loss, now max £50 takeout. The lot of them seem to be getting worse by the week, yet the BHA think there isn't a problem at all!
If this does get some serious momentum I may be able to get a reporter involved too.

It's important for people to be proactive here. There may be a few hundred to few thousand directly affected now but a petition like this won't gain momentum with just the hard core. The essential issue is for people who do support something like this to get family, friends and aquaintances to sign up.
Who knows what may happen then?

I noted this Houses of Parliament petition the other day that is seeking more honourable behaviour from our bookmaker friends.

Most of them work on the principle of discrimination against individuals like you. Show any sign of winning and they will limit stakes on your individual account but treat others very differently.
Picture going into a supermarket to buy a loaf of bread but getting told at the till that you personally because you are you are only permitted to buy one slice. The bloke in the queue after you they sell the whole loaf to.
Pure persecution and discrimination against individuals.
Even if they are not persecuting you today they may want to in future.
I would not be in 100% agreement with the precise wording of this petition. If setting it up myself I may have phrased it around bookies accepting a minimum liability as opposed to a minimum stake.
In New South Wales in Australia for example bookmakers are indeed forced to accept decent bets of 2500 Aussie dollars if memory serves me right after punters there said bookie past behaviour was "not fair dinkum". It was most of the uk brands who are also over there that got the most criticism. The racing authorities there introduced rules to reduce individual punter perpetuation behaviour.
But despite me not agreeing 100% with the exact wording of this one I have signed it anyhow. At his stage it is more so about raising awareness of the general issue in the Houses of Parliament.
It will take you a mere 30 seconds or so to complete. Who knows in a years time you may be able to claim that you yourself helped change the world for the better for many punting years to come.
The Aussies didn't want a shafting so stood up for themselves and won. What are you Uk punters going to do? Lube yourself up, bend over and touch your toes singing Dancing Queen or do you have it in you to put up a bit more resistance than that?
[No offence intended to those of you who may find that an attratctive idea ]

Do you have any evidence for this? Any at all?
You see unlike yourself I don't tend to make comments without a reasonable idea that I'm not talking rubbish. There's roughly 45 million adults in this country. Around 16% of those when surveyed admit to having a bet on the horses. That would be about 7 million. The vast majority of those will be your few times a year punter who bet on the National, Gold Cup, Derby etc. At a generous estimate you are probably talking about a hardcore race enthusiastic group of horse racing punters of around a million. Which is probably around where the combined totals of Racinguk, Channel Four and live racecourse betters comes to. Out of those a significant number will be your older 50 pence yankee or a few doubles and a treble type old timers. You see where I am taking you here? It's called the deep end and you haven't got your arm bands on. Out of the rest will be a significant number of regular and long term losers like yourself. Bookies still want to do business with that kind of person. No we are getting to the numbers I'm talking about. A few thousand maybe.
So you tell me gobshiite where are these millions of accounts which have been closed? Fantasy Island? Or did you open them all you high roller you?
Here's some free advice son. Put down the crack pipe. Have a good wash, a shave and put on some clean clothes instead of those rancid urine stained track suit bottoms. Go and peer outside your bedsit. Even better mix with some real people. It's amazing the things someone as clueless as yourself could pick up just mixing with more intelligent people than you are and let's face it that won't be difficult will it? I'd imagine the contents of a nappy would be evens against you on Mastermind.

You have to laugh at homefortea seemingly thinking that our parliament can set laws for the rest of the world lol.
It's totally irrelevant if millions worldwide have been restricted or had accounts closed if the clue is the petition website is for the UK Government and Parliament.

It's also a very one dimensional way of looking at it too and you need to see the bigger picture.
There are several reasons why sometimes using a bookie can be better than using an exchange.

I don't want to be indelicate but this is an utter waste of time and a mere bagatelle. There are shades here of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza in Miguel de Cervantes' famous book fighting injustice through chivalrous actions. Has no chance of succeeding I'm afraid.

Get someone to write a press release stating the bookmaking industry are routinely refusing the bets of people that dare to actually win, and that winning is not actually allowed.
Voice the opinion that the media in this industry are complicit in covering it up.
Send it out to every journalist the bookmakers haven't corrupted, imo...
