I don't give a toss about in running and the 2 seconds delay (because it's easy enough to set it up before a race if you wish to do so anyway) so I welcome HD and it is long overdue.

2 seconds delay is a PRACTICAL issue with big financial implications for anyone betting IR on RUK...difference between perfecly good pics and HD is a FWP (First World Problem) that only saddos get excited about

Duncan, if your only reason for watching is in running betting then fine. Most of us want to see good racing with a clear picture and not judge everything by betting returns.

Not sure that's true sage. Plenty want it for in running
Anyway without getting into that. Has anyone timed them all and can confirm if any one is faster/slower etc?

if it were a choice between hd or a red button with raw track pics it would be a no brainer, but when has the opinion of the subscriber ever been important when they have exclusive tv picture rights?

So the solution is to have poor picture quality for everyone so that in running players can have a shorter delay? The shortest delay is on course which is where I would prefer to be but at my age, the driving and standing around in cold winds is no longer a pleasure. jamesdean, I concede that many of those watching on a Monday in March are looking at in running, but as RUK don't have any coverage today, that is not an issue until Exeter tomorrow.

Newsflash,in running is not the be all and end all of the sport of horse racing,in fact it represents a very small part of the game. We already get numerous threads on a daily basis about LV,no doubt we will now get those added to with threads about RUK HD. The SD version is still availabe so ffs stop whinging about pic speeds

bilbo They are not vital to everyone though. In the perfect we would all have lightning quick pics, everyone on a level playing field, sadly that is not the case. I'm just pointing out that many don't play in running and couldn't give a toss how quick the pics are

TRD, given inplay betting is now massive in football, cricket, tennis etc with much of the next generation choosing those sports and rejecting racing because of the lack of a level playing field, dont you think this puts the future of racing in doubt? that should be of concern to all

Bilbo, only saying it is much worse than on 432. I was happy enough with it until the new improvements. It is all relative of course .I am old enough to have watched Arkle and Mill House live on BBC and didn't realise how poor the picture was until you watch it back now.

rider betting on football etc etc has increased in general not just in play, horse racing no longer has the whole betting cake as it did many moons ago. As far as I'm aware the pictures for football, tennis etc do not represent a level playing field, some will always have quick pics no matter what the sport, because some will always be prepared to pay for them and in that case some will always be in a position to sell them

I do bet in running on racing but normally put the lay up with the keep button on before the race starts to ensure that I don't get caught out by a delay on a fall or whatever. I'm sure there are a lot of in running players on course who would like to see a delay of 30 seconds

TRD take a saturday afternoon, football or racing?
football suspends to prevent hoovering and isnt as time critical anyway so streamed games are fine (and free) so punters new the betting will choose football
whether racing likes it or not its in competition with other sports and as you rightly say they are unsurprisingly losing market share and if that continues then racing will continue to shrink

also , you will get a better picture using a HDMI lead compared to scart or other leads
Geordie, it can depend on the HD TV you have .HD ready is not as good as Full HDalso , you will get a better picture using a HDMI lead compared to scart or other leads
432 and 466 speeds look exactly the same, the question that needs to be answered is whether the SD has been slowed recently so that it tally's with HD, that seems unlikely as the HD viewers wouldn't care about in-running so RUK shouldn't feel they'd need to do that, however IMO seeing a SD picture not in front of the HD version is very unusual and if it's genuine I'd like to see an answer as to how this is possible.

Duffy, it may have something to do with the fact Ruk pictures are occasionally seen on track a full second in front of the ones we receive at home. So maybe theyve a lot more speed to play with than people think. Ive had sd and hd up against each other and hd is around 0.15 sec quicker, its noticable sd hasnt slowed from last week eaither

You are aware those sports are all much further behind live than atr pics even? The only difference is that people either aren't aware or don't care that it isn't a level playing field!

spkyer, 7 seconds in racing can hardly be equated to even 30+ seconds in football wrt ir odds changes, i thought this was obvious but try taking a look at the graphs

Check it against Turf next time you see it, I personally think its closer to a second. I think if it can be produced and passed out that quick on a sky platform then it should be. Ive just no idea if the track picture feed of the quicker ruk is distributed that way.

Eh? So you are now saying that you (and others) know the other sports are a long way behind but it doesn't really matter? Now where's that quote about '1 second to score a goal' I wonder..........

the suggestion is that ruk has been slowed slightly weeks ago so that when HD comes on line this week they are both the same speed

Obvious which the upscaled pic meetings are like Kempton last night, apparently 82% of meeting this year in HD. Still huge difference in quality switching to atr

Yeah the picture and sound quality are great. So far I haven't noticed anything in regards to delay issues. It's faster than the SD channel but is it still fast enough to compete with track-siders? So far so good.

beccaboo • March 10, 2016 1:53 PM GMT Pardon my lack of knowledge but is HD only available on SKY, i have virgin pictures(536)and dont think i have HD.
You are correct HD is not available on Virgin ,they hope to have it some time in the future.

Very inaccurately JD, . I just switched between the channels and watched the timer. HD was in front but by less than half a second. I've just done the same again and 432 seems ever so slightly faster than 466.

Thanks Roida. It must just be wishful thinking that HD was in front. Does anyone know if there's any truth on the subject that RUK were slowing down SD to make it the same speed as HD? Surely we'd have noticed by getting our asses kicked in-running.
