Would be interesting to know what this pompous mug has to say now?

Well done Victoria!!
Report ProSniper March 18, 2016 4:32 PM GMT
The joke is on Nicholls and his now mickey mouse stable. Polder would've bolted in with any male jockey riding him. Even if they only had 1 arm and leg. It was embarrassing watching her celebrate like she'd won, or even done a good job Blush

WD lass
Report Wesdag March 18, 2016 4:33 PM GMT
^ Yeah, she should have been in the Gold Cup.
Report Eeternaloptimist March 18, 2016 4:35 PM GMT
She did a superb job Prosniper. Nobody thought the horse would stay but she switched it off so effectively that she was the reason the horse came up the hill with a wet sail. Another jockey would have ridden a race earlier and folded two out.
Report acey deucy March 18, 2016 4:36 PM GMT
Big Respect to her,it takes some bottle to do wjat she has done....And she has got plenty of that.

Think she'd have got Don Poli a bit closer in the GC tbh

Report ProSniper March 18, 2016 4:44 PM GMT
Eeternaloptimist, that is rubbish. It was nothing to do with her riding patiently to "switch the horse off". She was riding the horse simply not to fall off. The other jockey's prolly warned her to ride out the back and stay out their way as they didn't want a joke, gimmicky rider like her messing up their chances.
Report Wesdag March 18, 2016 4:46 PM GMT
Stop seething Pro and give the girl some credit ffs.
Report johnnyrant March 18, 2016 4:48 PM GMT
Loved Francome on C4 and much missed these days given how dry and dull it has become but him & Smith-Eccles reacted like a couple of misogynists which they were back in the day, thinking a woman's place was in the bedroom being ridden by them.
Report ProSniper March 18, 2016 5:25 PM GMT
Wesdag, give her credit for what exactly? For getting round without falling off? Oh yes let's get the brass bands out for such an amazing feat! If the idea was just to "get round" then it should have been stated so in no uncertain terms. Imagine someone was betting for the first time and they placed a bet on ponder to win? They'd have been wondering why the hell the horse was travelling so smoothly and yet the pilot was happy just to cruise past beaten horses ConfusedAngrySad
Report Wesdag March 18, 2016 5:33 PM GMT
Let the buyer beware - wasn't a big secret she was riding.

There's always plenty of tyre kickers on the forum - you're no exception.
Report hippie March 18, 2016 5:37 PM GMT
How likely is it someone betting for the first time would realise the jockey was traveling with a double-handful?

And the other jockey's would more likely warn her to ride out the back so she wouldn't get trampled to death if she fell off rather than she'd be getting in their way.
Report MadVlad March 18, 2016 5:42 PM GMT
Mental if she had ridden the horse more aggressively it would have been out of the picture, she did better than 90% of jockeys and credit where it's due imo.
Report Wesdag March 18, 2016 5:45 PM GMT
Correct MadVlad.

Some were even doubting the horse would get the trip.

Even if she'd won, you'd still have the usual miserable s0ds knocking the ride.
Report MadVlad March 18, 2016 6:07 PM GMT
Indeed Cool

Picked up £936.

Some are there to try and win and others are racing for the place money.
Report Flagship2 March 18, 2016 6:45 PM GMT
Great publicity for racing, nice to have a good news story getting into mainstream news.

The plan was clearly to get around safely and that was all. Barry Orr said as much on Racing UK - do not back PdP he warned.....could not have been more explicit in his warning. Not sure what I make of that, but the warning proved to be a very valid one in the race itself.
Report xmoneyx March 18, 2016 6:47 PM GMT

He should take up cleaning saddles for a living like his mate cos his opinions aren't worth much.
Report Flagship2 March 18, 2016 6:54 PM GMT
Nice for racing to get some headlines for once.. That's a good thing and makes a nice change imo.
Report xmoneyx March 18, 2016 6:57 PM GMT
I don't know any non-racing people talking about it
Report Injera March 18, 2016 7:02 PM GMT
I don't see how it does anything for racing except to cheapen the role of the jockey.

If that was ANY other rider they would have been totally caned by the racing press. The cries of 'fix' would have been heard at Ayr.
Report thelatarps March 18, 2016 8:08 PM GMT
Francome is the one of a long line of supposed great british eccentrics who are lauded because they 'say what they think'
ie they spout utter nonsense, criticise people and have no real answers themselves
The day he left c4 was a great day for the sport
McGrath finally got a word in and cunningham who might not lack for self confidence is a far better pundit on all things to do with the
sport
All francome ever brought to the party was his 'show me your medals' type attitude the kind of bs hansen used to bring to motd
Fluck him the bigoted misogynist pr1ck
No doubt he supports the brexit like all the numbskulls in this beknighted land
Report Cash Is King March 18, 2016 10:53 PM GMT
Francome's opinions were rarely worth listening to. Remember, this is the man who once said that he wouldn't bother going to the races unless he was being paid to go.
