VICTORIA PENDLETON was agonisingly close to recording her first victory as an amateur jockey when losing out by a head in a photo-finish aboard Pacha Du Polder.

The dual Olympic track cycling champion was riding the nine-year-old for the first time competitively, and they were narrowly beaten by Queens Bay and Bryony Frost in a Ladies Open race at Milborne St Andrew in Dorset.

Pacha Du Polder, now trained by Chloe Roddick having been with Paul Nicholls, is set to be Pendleton's mount for the St James's Place Foxhunter Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Finishing second is Pendleton's best result in a point-to-point from her seventh attempt, and post-race she said:  "That was absolutely crazy, so brilliant.

"It was such a joy to ride such a good horse. He was accurate and relaxed. I think I feel more relaxed now as I was quite nervous before. It may look like I've come on leaps and bounds but that is mostly Pacha. If I get to the start at Cheltenham that will be like winning a bronze medal. If I finish it'll be a gold!"

Nicholls was on hand to watch Pendleton in the saddle, and added: "She gave it a brilliant ride. It was a fantastic effort. She followed my instructions, I told her to go wide on the final bend for better ground, she winged the last and rode all the way to the line.

"She's come on bundles. We'll look for another race like this or maybe a hunter chase."

"Pacha Du Polder is currently trained by Chloe Roddick, who pre-trains horses for Nicholls. But he could return to the champion trainer for Pendleton’s Festival bid".

No significant price changes in the foxhunter market as a result of today's race, if you got yourself the 66 or 33 on VP to win the race, ypu still have a decent bet imo

There are other outcomes involving this thread that I would be keen to bet on, cant find any odds though, shame.

Cant agree with Nicholls if the inside was good enough all day for Biddick that's good enough for me swap the jockeys different result
