Why is the racing always crap except Saturdays during the NH season?

Small crowds no sponsorship no money.

agree prefer the flat..............horrible ground poor class racing.............roll on the flat

don't mind Cheltenham but gave me royal ascot any day of the week

Don't think that this problem is unique to NH.  Quite often during last years flat season we had dross during the week and come Saturday several top courses competing against each other.  This led to gaps of only 5 mins between races on many occasions, making it almost ridiculous for the armchair viewer (and that's WITHOUT the customary late running of some races!).  That was then followed by just two meetings of complete mediocrity on the Sunday! You couldn't make it up..

I would disagree with the original post and would suggest there is just as much, if not more midweek Flat rubbish throughout the season. A poor jump race is always going to provide more of a spectacle than a poor Flat race.

The problem is a combination of a massive change to the fixture list over the years and a change to the mentality of running horses. Henrietta Knight had many critics (I was one of them) about her handling of Best Mate but now they are all at it. Aintree, Fairyhouse and Punchestown all existed before but didn't have the same level of importance. Very good horses used to turn up at the gaff tracks and run in handicaps. It just doesn't happen any more.

The miserable git wants to find another sport to follow.

Far easier to make it pay on **** NH racing than **** flat racing

Oh for those great old days when even unfashionable tracks had meetings covered on terrestrial tv midweek, or come to that, those days when the recognised popular meetings had their 3 day Tues to Thurs slots, just distant memories now as the fixture list has been pulled and battered this way and that...!

As Patrick Veitch says, forget jumps - too unpredictable. Concentrate on flat.

I don't dislike national hunt racing and love Cheltenham but heavy ground slogs at Leicester when it is pissin down compared to a nice Tuesday at Chester when the sun is shining. For me there is no comparison but each to their own. Can understand the fors and againsts.

At this stage of the season 90% of the chat is about Cheltenham which is 6 weeks away. That's because it is simply crap until then. 6 weeks in flat you can fit in Guineas meeting, Chester May meeting, York Dante meeting, Epsom classic meeting, Royal Ascot. Nuff said really

reading at the weekend richard johnsons profile after riding his 3000 winner,first big race winner mr mulligan towton chase wetherby,back then ran on a midweek day ,back in 88 both sun alliance winners won on the same midweek card at warwick,the only time dessie got beat recieving weight was at wincanton again midweek,alderbrooks only run before winning the champion hurdle midweek,and every top staying chaser in the country would run at haydock midweek in the 80s,all that said i still enjoy midweek national hunt.

Yes I thought that(mostly Sats) and `sun`- it always rains at Chester as the wind blows off the Welsh hills and with little cover can be well miserable!!

not sure about it always rains gaz but there does always seem to be a very bad day at the vase meeting.
