I'm certainly not computer savvy however i went to windows10 a few months ago and have just about got used to it although i don't exploit 99% of what it has to offer.

That's the thing posy, I only use my laptop for betting and the odd google. Anything else and I'm lost. I'm happy with Windows 8 and don't want to change but fear It might be inevitable one day?

Thanks mrcombustible and for the other replies. I said I was on Windows 8 but it's actually 8.1 if I remember correctly after being forced to update about 18 months ago.

I just want something that works. Where I've learned where everything is and what it's called.
I look on a new operating system like a jigsaw puzzle. Where you've put all the pieces together and are enjoying the picture. Then someone breaks it up and you have do it all over again.

I run the free Linux UBUNTU on my laptops. I use one just for banking.
I don't have to run anti virus, I don't have to run anti spyware. I don't have to install security updates. I just turn it on and use it without any fuss.
The main reason I don't run Ubuntu on my PC is because I use a TV card and surf the internet at the same time, and I couldn't get a TV card or a TV dongle to work with Ubuntu.

I did it at home (from Win 7) and it's fine. Did it because it was free and pushes the end of support from MS for the operating system past the expected life of the box itself.
If you're on Win 8, do it. Win 8 was a horrible mess, Win 10 is like Win 7+.

Yep, fear of the unknown is what probably holds me back with computers. I have rejected the free offer to switch to 10, but, possibly, should bite the bullet and get it over with.
Funnily enough, Doc, I downloaded Ubuntu only yesterday! Took a while, and I was too tired and frightened to install it. I seem to muddle on with this Seamonkey thing ( saw it mentioned on this forum a few years ago) and am reluctant to go out of my comfort zone, in case I mess up and am left without internet access ( through my ignorance).
I'll have to man up and give Ubuntu a whirl.

I've absolutely no problems since upgrading from 8 to 10, but I've refused to upgrade from 7 to 10 on another computer. The reason is that 7 has Windows Media Center, but 10 hasn't.
Other than that, 10 is far superior to anything that came before it.

Win 10 Pro N is stable as a rock - apart from Edge, but I use chrome anyway. Pro gives you more control over updates and comes with BitLocker for drive encryption. 'N' means no media player - I wanted the OS as 'lite' as possible.

I was well accustomed to windows xp/vista then win 7...didnt like win 8 and was dreading having to upgrade...then got a lappy with win 10 and spent a few night getting my head round it and now love it..
If you switch on then open chrome or firefox to use for betting/browsing etc it makes no diff what operating system you're using .
