I'm going to Gowran for the first time in a couple of weeks for the Thyestes Chase. Would anyone be able to recommend the best way to get there from Dublin. From what I can see the train to Kilkenny and then a taxi to the course seems the best bet (I think the train arrives too late for the courtesy bus), but any better suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheaper to get a train from Dublin to Bagenalstown and taxi from there. Only 4 miles from Gowran and stop before Kilkenny.

I'm almost certain Bus Eireann provide a bus from Dublin to Gowran for the Thyestes. They always have done anyway. If,for any reason this has discontinued, then the train to Bagenaslstown is the way to go.
