They do love racing on putty at Plumpton, I recall the day McCoy, (sorry, Sir Anthony McCoy) rode his 3000th winner there, it was completely unraceable, they actually ran the bumper and left the hurdles in for them to weave in and out of because they would have left pools of water if they took them up.

One of their usual mundane Monday race days would never have gone ahead.

dont feel too sorry for the bookies - they win enough dont you worry. They feel sorry for themselves because they dont make the same profits as they used to.

Seriously? the betting industry is worth billions. The prices they offer are way less than the actual chance of the event happening - if it wasnt they wouldnt exist. They have overheads like anyone else and they have to make a taxable profit.
If it didnt pay they would not be offering the service. The small independants are a different issue. sorry to see small businesses go, but that just business overall - adapt of die - be it Woolworths or PoundLand.
Do you feel sorry for Betfair or Lad brokes or Bet fred? No of course not. Do you fee sorry for the small shop on the corner yes? Bit do you still go to Tescos ? of course you do.
Real life is harsh its not a game its a jungle.

not sure orchid it would be interesting to find the right answer to that, although regarding today it seems the jockeys made the decision and rightly so.

Ladbrokes packed up after two races, barely anyone betting. I'm sorry Plumpton's big day was spoiled by the weather, on the other hand, they should not have started the meeting. Exeter and Taunton should also have been abandoned imo and the fact that both were sold out in hospitality and had a good attendance probably swayed the decisions. Half the crowd at Exeter were gone before the fourth race, the younger half who had better ways of celebrating New Years Day.By the time racing had finished, cars parked in the infield were standing in slurry. And racegoers crossing the track by the winning post at Taunton were sinking up to their ankles. Racing took the short-end money by ploughing on with these meetings, but long term it's a disaster if we can't put on a better show than this.
