Why would he not deserve it? Certainly as much as Chris Hoy who dominated his sport for what, 18 months around an olympics and Bradley Wiggins dominated for even less got 1. Ap dedicated 20 years of his life to dominating a sport and i doubt very much we'll see his sort of numbers again. I'm not a huge AP fan but I can't think of (m)any sports people more deserving if you like that sort of thing.

I agree with dobmeister1.

Riding or training racehorses are both shady professions. You won't get far in either without breaking the rules regarding non triers.

Yet they're honouring these kinds of people, which devalues the whole system of handing out honours.

They don't seem to put much thought into these things do they?

Honouring people like that, certainly devalues the contributions that have been made by people who do real good in this world.

All countries have a bit of 'look at us, aren't we wonderful?' about them. With the Brits, it's still being a member of the United Nations Security Council, having to act the big boys bombing Syria, and an honours system that has it's origins in the feudal system and it's own imperial history.

It would be more valued now if it only honoured those who did sterling work in their local communities, but the media would alas lose interest fairly quickly. Certainly looking as if it is past its sell by date though.

Ridiculous to knight somebody for doing a job they love and being paid a fortune.  Coincidentally, I met a nurse today aged 61, who was an absolute angel but will never get any public recognition for a long career doing a very worthwhile job.

NB AP seems a very nice guy and I have no issue with him personally.

Report moondan December 31, 2015 4:12 PM GMT
If you have to have these type of awards then AP is one of the most deserving cases.

A absolute champion who's courage and skill have lit up a sport that only the very brave participate in.

At the the other end of the spectrum you have Ronnie O'Sullivan who will suit himself at every turn and even insult snookers greatest champion and player Stephen Hendry by walking out mid-match just because he was losing in one of snookers blue ribbon events.

Two award winners but both a million miles apart in integrity and grit.

I can only assume Ronnies parents made the committee an offer they could not refuse.

Nothing strange about the english getting things so wrong but this is a very good example.

AP always played the game where Ronnie so seldom does.
Report Vubiant December 31, 2015 4:12 PM GMT
I don't hold with honours systems but the Knighthood for McCoy is farcical ...at the age of 40 for basically doing the same job as scores of others everyday -except for the fact he rode  hundreds upon hundreds of odds-on steering jobs.
Peter Scudamore said lately at the Lesters that any amount of the winners he (PS) rode for Martin Pipe - the trainer himself would have won on. Ditto McCoy.
If McCoy had to get an honour an MBE would have been more appropriate. But in any event the whole charade is a devalued joke exercise.

not sure archer can be likened to the beast savile ,and prob dangerous to do so .

archer was jailed for lying in a libel trial after a "sting" by the news of the world  ,savile preyed on kids although the circumstances surrounding his time with the bbc remain a mystery ,he always looked well dodgy ,they created the monster imo and still not so sure the questions surrounding savile have been asked ,answered or understood

Or rode horses sent specifically to collect place prize money instead of going all out for the win.
