My mate rang me yesterday saying he has received a letter from Betfred/Tote saying they were going to be shutting their Wigan call centre . As a result all credit accounts will now change to debit accounts and all amounts need to be settled within 2 weeks.

Apart from the disgraceful decision by Done to scrap hundreds of jobs (many of whom had been there for many years) is this legal? My friend had always (for the last 25 years) used the account to place all his football wagers for that season which will not be settled till next May.

As a result he will have to find £1200 within the next 2 weeks. Can they change the terms like this?

At least the bald fraudster has done the decent thing and effectively told all those losers to do one..

Quite why he would wish to alienate a list of mug punters that any decent Bookmaker would pay a premium to have is quite beyond me but when you are allegedly senile why does it matter.

As for paying up in the next 2 weeks ignore them and bet elsewhere. If you cannot win with nobet£3.65 you should be put down.
The terms and conditions of a credit account were notified to you at the onset and so by not paying you are in a fantastic position as if by chance you are an ante-post winner (highly unlikely if the fraud let you bet) you will be paid out.Losers should give the offshore knocker the Spanish Archer.

Just a thought.

Losing the Gold Cup and the kudos must hurt. For many years we have all associated the GC with BF but sadly no more. How utterly stupid. Whether you have billions or zillions everybody thinks of Freddie on the rostrum. No more. Shame.

I would guess the T&Cs say on credit account that they can ask for the funds when they want (within a certain period). It doesn.t mean they are right or couldn't be challenged though. If your mate hasn't got it he cannot pay, so just wait for baldys next move - although he will probably want the deeds to his house knowing that cont.

I take it that all antepost bets just get transfered to debit account. If unable or unwilling to pay does the bet just get voided...which obviously you don't want if you're in a good position.
I used to have a Tote online account...took the 25 free bet offered to change to Betfred...then stopped using it.

The most hated man in betting history and the industry, was speaking to two of his ex high ranking staff, ( shall we say) recently, they were both pissed, and told me things about the company....wow....

dambuster - I doubt anyone will doubt that at all. Never known a firm to try and welch on so many bets

Magic, never known a firm who have been threatened by court action so many times, then pay out when they realise the punter won't swallow there bull5h1t

A lot of trainers and Stewards had Tote accounts at one time.
I probably had my Tote Credit account for around 40 years but closed it about two years ago after he closed most of the Tote on course facilities and stopped supplying postage paid envelopes.
The friendly on course offices for members were a place of shelter on cold wet days and many had free refreshments.

Not sure what's wrong with Oldgit's point; he is correct about the old Tote ONCOURSE.
The staff were generally good and the place was often a nice refuge.

I guess computer-bound punters don't understand.

And, yes, the Tote was the place for many owners and trainers. I remember one time we went up to Pontefract and the trainer from the Midlands instructed us to stay away from the bookies and put this on for me at the Tote.

Towards the end ( the end being when frd took over) things did go a bit strange with the different categories of Tote betting ( pool, credit, etc)but I think a lot of that was down to the particular course.

Snotty establishments had snotty staff; other places were friendly and easy going. If i remember correctly, all ye had to do at places like Warwick or Wolver was say the horse's name; they did the rest.

Why would bald fred be giving £1200 worth of credit till may?
Report spyker December 11, 2015 11:47 AM GMT
My dad closed his account and the money is in his bank this morning. Ok Barney Curly he aint but to basically tell my dad and others like him to 'feck off we don't won't your money' is baffling idiocy from bf. At least the walk to the bookies gets him out the house for 10 mins now!
